my cancer
Hi Linda,
Don't mind sharing as I know it may help someone else. This is second bout with CA had cervical cancer in 93 with surgery and radiation I survived, but have some side effects. Lymphodema in legs and neurapathy but managed e to work until I retired in 05 as a courier for nuclear medicine. The new cancer is in left lung inoperable NSC.was going to have stereotatic radio surgery 2 days after simulation again told inelligible tumor had grown from 4cm to over 5cm was diagnosed in mid Aug. but pulmonary Dr. made me wait over month for appoinment despite the fact I took in film and was told by receptionist, if it was serious she would get me in sooner. With petscan breathing test and broncoscopy for biopsy it was end of Sept. Turned over to onocolgy more wait for appointments with onocologist and radiologist. While doing research myself on line I read about PROTON THERAPY and discovered there was a center in Florida where I live. So I sent films and reports for evaluation. A week later had call from their insurance dept. saying I was out of network I have Humana HMO. The lady who works in referral dept in my primary care Dr. office told me they faxes 37 pages to her for report so she did the paper work for me ashe knew about all the problems I was having getting treatment.I continued with appointment with onocology and radiation and was going to have stereotatic radio surgery like(cyberknife) two days after simulation Radiologist called no can do. Five minutes before that call I heard from referral lady Humana approved treatment at the PROTON CENTER IN Jacksonville Fl. it is a 5 hr. drive but I called asking for appointment and went up there on Nov 6th. Net with casemanager Katrina and Dr. Nichols agreed to participate in a research study along with the proton therapy. Saw pulmonary Dr. following week who set appointment for another broncoposy to implant 3 gold markers to better guide proton beams. Told I needed more lab work and another CT scan. Called 2 days later not elligible tumor too big. So I was scheduled for simulation on Nov 19 went up had 9 crosses put on skin 3 front 3 each side and was shrink wrapprd to table ( no kidding) it is weird feeling but keeps you from moving. Go back on Dec. 3 to start treatment 10 days about 30 minutes each time. Pray for me and always remember when one door closes another opens ****Nancy****
