I've no idea what the movie is about--hadn't actually heard about it until Blondie mentioned it. However, culture/society/civilization as we knew it when growing up has definitely gone away and we're faced with learning how to survive in our own country where people speaking foreign languages have more rights than the citizens do....ooops, better kick my lil soapbox out from underneath myself and retreat to my corner.
Haven't seen it. It got bad reviews and looked like the type of movie they release around the 4th of July. Independence Day etc. The local guys who reviewed it said if Will Smith had been in it the movie probably would have been more entertaining. I just go to those to be entertained. As if it will happen, I haven decided if I can't change it or control it I really try hard to let it go. So I guess I can honestly say I haven't given it much thought. Just a fictional movie as far as I am concerned.
Do you watch Flashback on TV? Could that happen? I find it fascinating but there is so much going on in the world today...could all of this happen with a touch of the button????
Sweet you are wise beyond your years
CUWIRE2---not really--I'm pushin' 62 and come from a generation where a person's word meant something--and everyone here in our country was proud to be an American--we saluted the flag, said the pledge of Allegiance, sang the National Anthem--and knew the words---and when I was a kid we prayed in school for several years-somewhere along the line someone sold us a bill of goods--we should demand our money back! I'd love to have my grandbabies bein' raised in the country in which I was raised---
Do I believe in any "doomsday" garbage? No, even hell no. It's nothing more than another way to sell movie tickets. The Mayans never had any such beliefs, either. Now to stir up some controversy----The country in which we were raised didn't allow non-whites to attend decent schools, eat in restaurants, vote, etc. It tried and convicted people on heresay evidence about their political beliefs. It didn't allow women to hold decent-paying jobs. Need I go on? Oh yeah, very few peole could afford a tv, there wa no InterNet (or computers), and a one-car family was upper-middle class. THESE are the good old days!
I agree with both of you - but - at least when I was growing up in Kansas, you knew your neighbors, helped each other out. Now it seems like everyone just watches out for themselves!
I believe there is a doomsday coming, but probably doesn't have anything to do with the Mayans...
I saw the movie as well as Pirate Radio and Precious. I plan to see Invictus. 2012 has great visual effects but I don't believe it will happen. However, I will start being concerned when I don't see 2013 calendars for sale.
Oh Bonzai just a note.... most Women Still cannot get a decent-paying job. And back in the day, since we are stiring controversy, the Man of the house had the job and took care of the family. When did I ever tell any one that I wanted to work 8 hours a day at a meaningless job for little pay and then come home and work another 4 to 5 hours cleaning and cooking???
Irish---I couldn't agree more that women should get equal pay for equal work, and should have an equal shot at the opportunity to get the good jobs. We are making progress, albeit all too slowly. In our household, we both work 8-hour days and come home to split the housework/yardwork fairly equally. That way BOTH our jobs are meaningless and for little pay.
Bonazi - you are a good husband. Or a well trained one.
