Good News/Bad News

My husband told me tonight that the good news at his place of employment is that by the middle of December, they will start getting back the 10% of pay that has been taken from them for the past several months (that has been significant for us). The bad news is that each and every employee (these folks have either had to take four hours a day off w/o pay or the 10%, whichever was applicable to their particular job) has to take a week off without pay (furlough) in January of next year. Now how many people do you know that can afford to take a week off w/o pay in this economy? We're ok, but I know that many are not. Some families only have one income. I, for one, will be happy when all this recession stuff is behind us.

I'm seeing so much of this... some companies who are in trouble are laying off 100 or so employees while giving a few of their "top players" a big bonus, hoping they will stay.

I'm glad not to be relying on such a place for my family's well being.

This mild economic recovery we're alledgedly in is only because companies are cutting/reducing their work force NOT increasing their production.

This is why the unemployment rate remains so high while at the same time they're saying there's a mild recovery.

I'm sick of American companies doing everything they can NOT to participate in a recovery the "old-fashioned way," ... by EARNING it!!! Instead, they choose to use any means necessary to circumvent the "letter of real economic recovery" and use tricks played on the backs of workers.

It's sickening.

Seems to me we all need to do more thinking out of the box- rely less on jobs and more on our own business or other skills.
