Narcissists

Do you know any narcissists? Here are some of the symptoms;

Exageration of self achivements

Think others should admire them and give them a lot of attention

Believe they are superior to other people

Have no problems with guilt when they exploit other people

Extereme envy of other people's accomplishments, relationships, possessions

Frequently angry and irrational when people don't act the way they would like

How do you respond to people like this if:

they are in your family?

are friends?

are co-workers?

The son-in-law of a friend of mine is a narcissist. I'm not around him much, and if I had to be, I would just not react much to what he said or did. Can someone with narcassistic disorder really help it? Is there medication?

Or are we just talking about jerks with big egos?

amcurious1,

You forgot to include on this site. Believe me, there are plenty! Often the best way to deal with such individuals is to IGNORE THEM!

However, if that isn't possible, then CLEARLY state the facts to them regarding their egomaniacal behavior and let the chips fall where they may!

Charles Manson, Jim Jones, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Napoleon Bonaparte etc fits the profile. Perhaps a strong dose of valium coupled with a stronger dose of Prozak might calm them down for a while but the only sure cure is to kill em.

LOL, red....JB, Prozac in the water supply....well, now that I am retired...if I see someone like this, I go the other way and I never go around them again....people in my family that may have had this or a similar disorder are dead now and not around to torment my family any more

There is a woman like this in one of my exercise classes. She never fails to report on all aspects of her life: money, career, sex (yes, TMI), and says things that can't possibly be true. I find it not only annoying but pretty sad at this point in life. I try to stay will out of her bragging and boasting range.

I think people who are narcissistic have an inflated ego and are full of themselves....and full of something else....LOL....in reality, they are probably insecure. There is a big difference between being self confident and self absorbed.

I was diagnosed as a mysonogist, a misandriest, and a hedonist with flatulence until I saw a psychiatrist. His technique for bringing me out of my delusional state was nothing short of miraculous. He looked me deep in the eye and told me to concentrate on the palm of his hand. As I was doing so he smote me on the forehead knocking me backwards ass over tit out of my chair. He then said, "WAKE UP TO YOURSELF!" I haven't been the same since.
