I've distanced myself more so personally than in distance. A couple of friends emailed me from facebook to reconnect but I want no ties to the past. That part of me is dead and for good reason.

I left the town that I was raised in when I was 18 and didn't look back. I didn't have anything in common with anyone that I grew up with and I have not and don't plan on going to any reunions.
I had to go back a few years ago to take care of family stuff. Nothing much had changed. The town that time forgot so to speak.
Home is where I am.
I am about 800 miles away from my home and stay in touch with family there but not any friends. I have been back for family reunions and funerals. I have been here for 24 years and hope to move again real soon. Texas hear I come. Ye Haw
Wolfie
1600 miles, been in south Texas over 36 yrs. My best friend in the whole wide world, since I was 13, still lives near the old home place in Va.
Do you still live near your "Home place" ? yes, quite close.
How far away are you now? 12 miles
How "connected" are you to your past? too connected, i see family and classmates all the time
How have you stayed connected? (If you wanted too) mainly meeting for drinks, parties, social things & church. several of us are on facebook.
My "home" is 1800 miles away in Newfoundland, Canada.
With both parents and all elders having passed away, I am the oldest remaining member of my family. Sadly, my siblings and I are no longer close, due to too long kept secrets that will ever divide us.
I simply choose to "belong" wherever I live and am happy that way.
I am in the same city since Jr. High.
All my siblings are still here too.
It is just the best place,
Beach 6 min. away
Cape 40miles away, can see every launch clearly from my yard
Disney 50miles away
Miami just 3hrs south
On and on
No reason to move
Open to it though
2,500 miles from where I grew up in the rolling hills of Southeastern Pennsylvania. I do miss it all the time (the THREE seasons... don't miss Summer!). Of course, here in Southern California we have the endless Summer; it's boring and after 30 years I'm tired of it!!!
On a positive note -- I do enjoy being near the ocean... walking on the beach in WINTER experiencing the cool salt air while wearing a jacket and gloves suits me just fine!!! I learned how to ski out here and have traveled to Lake Tahoe, Utah, and Colorado on fun-filled ski trips with friends. This certainly would not have happened had I stayed back East.
Went to a class reunion in September and had a blast! Thanks to the magic of the Internet, our class is now connected via a Yahoo group; it's great to be in touch with old classmates!
A surprising number of people seem very disaffected with their "home place" -- Personally, I have mellowed toward mine as the years have gone by and the memories of past problems have been softened by the passage of time -- And the Statute of Limitations has passed on most of my crimes --- LOL!!

This is a good one , because I traveled a lot and lived in alot of different places..Ended up coming back because i missed my friends and it was kool running in to them out of the clear blue.Well most of them are gone to wherever and all that is left is about 5 that will be my friends for life wherever I go. Other than that , this is the most sucky place to live(called the armpit of the nation). I have been stuck here ever since , for one reason or an other. I still try to make plans to leave but they are looking dimmer as time goes on .I made a commitment to God to take care of my mother and hope she lives a long time but when she goes to be with him I will leave because that is the only thing that can hold me hear now. .
