Times sure have changed haven't they? Some parents just want to avoid the confrontation so let their kids do whatever. I suppose there are worse things for a 15yo to get into than going to a movie at midnight on a school night, however I like you would not have allowed it.
We run up against this all the time.
Just last weekend a local church had a lock-in. It started at 9pm and finished at 7am. Staying up all night is terrible for a person in so many ways. On top of that to stay up the kids drink those caffeine loaded drinks.
We said no.
I think Floridagal has it right. Many parents today are too wussy to stick to their guns. And so many of them want to be friends with their kids. I always figured my kids had enough friends. What they needed from me was a parent.
Some guy I know just told me he was BFF with his two daughters. I'm thinking--bet they were prefer a dad.
I would not have let my 13yo daughter go see New Moon at midnight on Thursday if she had asked. It was a school night and she has trouble getting up most mornings with going to bed at 10!
She did go see it at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon, though, and said it was awesome. She also can't stop talking about how hot Jacob is.
My daughter's BFF is at school and changes on a regular basis. At home she has a mother, a father, and an older brother who remember their responsibilities of raising her right.
Not on a school night. That's just silly.
I'm glad you said that about those church lock-ins, WVf. I always thought they were the stupidest things. I hated sleepovers when my girls were little - staying up until 2 or 3 (or later), eating crap and drinking sugar, getting up at 7, eating more crap (usually doughnuts) and coming home crabby as all get-out for the rest of the day.
