Going to the movies

My friend let his 15 year old go to the opening of New Moon last night at midnight. My parents would never had allowed that, my daughters would never have done that. So here is the question, why is this acceptable in today's world? I saw on television a little nine year old who went and they ask her what was her favorite part and she said when he took off his shirt!!! Hello, what happened to nine year olds? So you get home at 3 in the morning and have to get up at 7 to go to school. Is that a good idea? Are were teaching them the wrong type of values? Or is it okay in today's world to allow this. I am simply bumfuzzled.
Times sure have changed haven't they? Some parents just want to avoid the confrontation so let their kids do whatever. I suppose there are worse things for a 15yo to get into than going to a movie at midnight on a school night, however I like you would not have allowed it.

We run up against this all the time.

Just last weekend a local church had a lock-in. It started at 9pm and finished at 7am. Staying up all night is terrible for a person in so many ways. On top of that to stay up the kids drink those caffeine loaded drinks.

We said no.

I think Floridagal has it right. Many parents today are too wussy to stick to their guns. And so many of them want to be friends with their kids. I always figured my kids had enough friends. What they needed from me was a parent.

Some guy I know just told me he was BFF with his two daughters. I'm thinking--bet they were prefer a dad.

I would not have let my 13yo daughter go see New Moon at midnight on Thursday if she had asked. It was a school night and she has trouble getting up most mornings with going to bed at 10!

She did go see it at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon, though, and said it was awesome. She also can't stop talking about how hot Jacob is.

My daughter's BFF is at school and changes on a regular basis. At home she has a mother, a father, and an older brother who remember their responsibilities of raising her right.

Not on a school night. That's just silly.

I'm glad you said that about those church lock-ins, WVf. I always thought they were the stupidest things. I hated sleepovers when my girls were little - staying up until 2 or 3 (or later), eating crap and drinking sugar, getting up at 7, eating more crap (usually doughnuts) and coming home crabby as all get-out for the rest of the day.
