What a country!!

I got this in email... but it's too good not to post here:

Let me see if I understand this....

IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR......

IF YOU GO INTO CHINA ILLEGALLY, YOUR CONSIDERED A SPY AND GET HARD PRISON TIME.....

IF YOU GO INTO GERMANY ILLEGALLY, YOU GET A HEFTY FINE, WORK IT OFF OR PAY IT OFF, THEN DEPORTED........

IF YOU GO INTO ENGLAND ILLEGALLY, YOU ARE IMMEDIATELY JAILED AND DEPORTED........

IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY....

BUT, IF YOU CROSS THE U.S. .. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET:

1. A DRIVER LICENSE
2. A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
3. WELFARE
4. FOOD STAMPS AND
5. FREE HEALTH CARE

I guess I still don't understand...maybe we should have listened to Lou Dobbs!

I know it's just a forward but in reality, in the USA, if you're poor and legal or illegal, you might just get prison like in China or North Korea.

"Here in this country, a new study has found the number of people in prison, on parole or probation has reached a record 7.3 million.

"One in every thirty-one adults is now in the US corrections system. Twenty-five years ago, the rate was one in seventy-seven.

"The Pew Center on the States found that corrections spending is outpacing government spending on education, transportation and public assistance.

"The National Association of State Budget Officers estimates that states spent a record $52 billion on corrections last year — that’s one in every 15 general fund dollars."

It's starting to look as though this country is locking up an entire under-class.

Given the choice of living in one of the 6 countries mentioned where do you think most people in this world would prefer to live? Not to speak nasty of England or Germany or anywhere else as every country has good and bad things about it but.......

Hey Zoe...I heard of a great program to help decrease prison populations. And it's available to anyone and everyone that chooses to participte. And it's free of charge.

....it's called....DON'T BREAK THE LAW DUMBASS!

A simple concept that seems to be too hard to grasp by many.

Are there more crimes being committed or are the criminals getting more stupid?

Gee, I guess one had better tell the Immigration officials in Seattle they are doing things all wrong, not issuing drivers licenses and other percs. For they have a good sized building at the edge of the downtown, just for the s illegals they pick up\. And it was pretty much full when I lived there.

How about don't jail people for victimless non-violent crimes. But if a crime is violent and/or involves children, lock them up forever and throw away the key.

There's also that pesky lack of equity based on finances in our justice system. Poor law breakers fill the prisons. Wealthy law breakers go on to political office.

The post has a lot of sarcastic conclusions but not Fact One to back it up. Official estimates are that 1.2 million people enter or remain in the country illegally every year -- not just for economic reasons nor to commit crimes, but refugees, torture survivors, victims of human trafficking, some to escape human rights violations or political oppression. I met several Iranians who were here on student visas when Khomeni took over their country. They knew the horrors, the repression, torture and murders of fellow Iranians and their family and what they faced should they go back. Two married to stay in the country and I don't know what happened to the third. All were in their senior year at University, well educated and from what I knew of them would make productive and upright US citizens.

Some "illegals" are refugees who fled and sought asylum under the Geneva Convention. Without their belongings, records and people to testify in their behalf -- for they might be half a world away, claims can be turned down for lack of evidence,

Of the 1.2 million over 300,000 are picked up and held in Immigration detention facilities or in jails contracted out with various jurisdictions all over the country. The media and certain groups have created hysteria by characterizing everyone in this country illegally as a 'wetback' from Mexico, seeking a job to support his family [boo, hiss, bad person], or a criminal to sell drugs to our all too9 willing drug addicted American adults and children.

The post is pure opinion, cheap and easy to make and circulate.

Back to square one....don't break the law.

Poor people ARE capable of not breaking the law.

I remember when I was poor as dirt....guess what, I didn't break the law. Amazing isn't it? imagine that...a poor person NOT breaking the law.

You see...if you do not break the law, you then do not have to deal with the justice system. I'll give you one guess what the result of this dynamic is.

Did you figure it out?.......Right!!!!...You stay out of prison. Great.

Don't imprison non-violent criminals? I have a better idea...use them to harvest crops and other menial labor to keep the cost of food and other goods down. And at night...they can have a bologna sandwich and sleep in a tent city. Non-Violent prisoners don't need a super-max institution to house them. but I don't want them free, wandering the streets. Do the crime, do the time.
