Micro Homes

The perky blurb says, "Micro homes are tiny houses, and an exciting new trend in housing options."

Exciting? A micro house is 500 sq.ft. or less. I find that less than exciting. That is a closet, not a house.

But for those of you who ARE excited by this concept, check this out:

The KitHaus. view link 117-square-feet to 289-square-feet aluminum-framed modules that can stand-alone or combine for larger structures. This is the future of housing innovation -- strong, efficient, easy-to-assemble kits of parts. If these go into volume production, prices could fall substantially.

The IdeaBox. view link a modern 400-square-foot prefab tiny house that is in production now. A nice simple design. Just add furniture and move in.

The micro compact home.http://microcompacthome.com/ a clever little living-space built in Germany. The tiny box is a fully-functioning home and has been used to house college students.

OK, that's enough of this stuff. I am getting claustrophobia.

I looked at the house in the second link and there are actually two of the 2-BD homes that I could be comfortable living in. Thanks for the link Martiln

The kit haus looks like very expensive garden sheds. One was over $50,000.00. Please! Give me some nails and plywood and I will have one of those for $2,000.00.

The other one from idea box is way better. I actually didn't look at the prices but it comes fully assembled and has some green features. I liked the modular design so you can add a room later.

These don't scream home to me but they are good for ideas.

I love the whole micro home concept. I would love to reduce the "stuff" in my 920sf home to about half what it would actually hold. Living in small places forces us to reduce stuff to the most important and most life enhancing. Leaving us time and space for the really important things in life.

With the adoption of the IBC (International Building Codes) by most states, these buildings most likely will not comply.

Yes, Sailor, and in some municipalities, you cannot get a permit to build anything smaller than 1,000 sq.ft.

Rather neat. they remind me of the winter homes I see here in arizona for "snow birds" in the rv parks. neat and compact. without all the the work that has to go into some homes.

I'm in the process of building a 400 sq. foot 20x20 cottage and can't wait! I have lived over half of my life with a man with Hoards Disease and am looking forward to having absolutely no clutter in my life. If I have room for a bed, a kitchen and bathroom and enough room for dancing hula, I'll be as happy as a clam. I now am living in a 1280 sq. ft. house but because of the clutter and stuff, I actually have less than 400 sq. feet of living space. I'm so anxious for my little home to be finished.
