I am posting a recipe for my favorite salad here this morning - Print this and make it. It will impress your friends...
Tuscan Bread Salad
4 thick slices of Italian bread
4 ounces mixed greens - I use half spring greens and half spinach
4 -6 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese - slice it thin and cut in bite sized pieces - (I have also used slices of mozzarella cheese sticks in a pinch
2 large vine-ripened tomatoes
1 small red onion - sliced paper thin and rings separated
Balsamic vinegrette dressing
1/2 cup EVOO
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tsp freshly milled pepper
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
Salt - 1/4 tsp or to taste later
Make the dressing in a container and shake. Set aside. I chill it.
Place bread on preheated grill and cook until golden brown. Take the grill off of heat and leave the bread on it so the bread turns hard. Break or cut into bite sized pieces.
Place bread, mixed greens, mozzarella and onions in a bowl. Add some of the dressing...toss and add enough to coat to your preference. ENJOY!
You can post recipes or talk about holiday food or anything. Just let me know you are out there!
Sounds very good HG, and easy.
I know that cooking a turkey in a bag is not new, but a friend did it with a little twist a few years ago and it was one of the best Thanksgiving meals I've ever eaten.
We cut up carrots, celery, onion and potatoes of choice the same way you would for a roast, then put some of the onion inside the bird, and put the remainder of everything around the turkey, season your turkey to taste, add recommended water and a little chicken broth for cooking in a bag and put in the oven. When it is almost done, cut the bag open (careful for steam), fold down and let turkey brown a little and remove, let cool before slicing. We put all the carrots, celery and potatoes in a serving dish, made gravy with a little onion and drippings and a little package gravy mix. We made our small pan of stuffing separate and made the Grand Biscuits to sop up the gravy. All the ingredients cooked with the turkey really have lots of flavor and you can even smash your potatoes to have that mashed potatoe consistency. This is so good!
HG, I think I will make you salad to have with the soup I will make with my turkey leftovers. I have never tried balsamic vinegar, wow, where have I been.
That sounds delish! I definately will try that one, for hubby. He likes crackers or croutons with his salad. Thanks!
sherrie, I forgot to post that I think I will do our turkey that way this year sounds wonderful! Thanks for the idea!
I was the one who wanted the recipe and sounds great. I think that I'll try your turkey tip too. Last year, I saw Christina DeLorean on a talk show and she stuffs the cavity of the bird with lemons. I tried that last year and the turkey was great. Happy Thanksgiving every one. We rented a place at the beach and that's where we're off to for the holiday
