Planning on concocting one on your little Bunsen burner in your lab, MisterS?
I bet that every person in this group, and every person you meet, will say they believe we have a soul. But none of them can describe it.
MisterScience, since the soul has no limits perceived about its divine creation, there is no definition or measurement. Those who have experienced their own soul and those of others through paranormal means describe the immortal soul as an "intelligent energy manifested by specific vibrational waves of light and color".
The soul has an immortal character, a part of a Creative Intelligent Energy Source of all, that when joined to the human ego forms a single, temporary personality for a single lifetime.
The soul produces thought patterns that influence the human brain and induce motivations. Here is where "free will" comes in. The human brain can ignore or do the opposite of what the soul is trying to accomplish.
Each of the temporary personalities of each lifetime contributes to the evolution of the soul, which grows in knowledge and wisdom through the learning process and pondering the effects of past lives.
Souls incarnate on incalculable worlds, all of which are like schools designed for the advancement of souls. It is through trial and error that wisdom is gained and advancement occurs. It is not a predetermined existence for humans, as there are various possibilities and probabilities coming from karmic influences that are subject to free will of the soul.
Many souls like to incarnate in human form on Earth because it is such a difficult place and much learning takes place, and advancement. The extreme contrasts on earth and in humans are what serve as the best learning process.
As souls advance to their goal, they evolve into higher energy forms with creative capabilities.
Those who have experienced their own soul, or that of others have not reported seeing any earthly religious dieties. The spirit world/home is a "space of transition" for their continued learning and evolution, rather than a "place of ultimate inaction, or nirvana".
This is just a little of what I have experienced personally, and read about. This material is summarized and quoted from "The Way of Souls: Spiritual Principles" by Michael Newton, Ph.D., a clinical hypnotherapist with decades of experience in regressing thousands of people to past lives and into life between lives. This is derived from the consistent shared experiences of individual clients.
I make no dogmatic claims or pronouncements. I am just sharing as a result of your question. There is a whole lot more material that goes into much more detail, if anyone is interested. It is another seed in the pot that can be considered.
I'm gonna need a bigger Bunson burner, huh?
Actually, I do not believe that there is such a thing as a "soul". I also do not believe in reincarnation nor in personal survival of death.
If we know not what we mean by 'soul' when we say there is soul, then why use the word 'soul' at all. How about, instead, "I believe we each have a glub. No one can define what a glub is, but we each have one."
searching, would you deprive those who want to use the word "soul" from doing so, because you don't believe in one? What difference does it make what word is used? If you did believe in a glub, use the word. Who knows, maybe centuries down the road the theology books will say we have an immortal glub. :-)))
If there are countless different beliefs, words, definitions, what difference does it make? To each their own. Or, is conformity a principle of life that will make everything OK. OMG! That would be terrible. I still find it interesting to read others concepts, and I am happy people share them.
Ahhh but the question still stands Dr. Zeus - it's true,,,
Despite your attempt at a word switcharooo...
Here I am with no ingredients in my tub...
So WHAT stuff do we need to make as a "Glub" ??????
MisterScience, are my ingredients non-viable? energy, vibrating waves of color and light? I think that is a little something for your tub.
Today I'm a physical monist but I don't believe anything is really 'physical'. I believe that everything which exists is even less extensive, in a general sense, than the appearance of its physical properties, but this doesn't mean at all that anything has less worth.
I would like to believe in free will but I can't seem to will myself free of the thought that "God" is really the Mother of all deterministic finite state automatons, though I recently found myself bonding with some illusory kindred spirit flocking about in Boids automata...

This is a "nail-soup" session. whoever ante's-up gets to eat. I'm not declaring anything off limits, just askin' what people think. Sounds like your borrowing from string theory Peace? Toss it in the pot!
I was tryin to figure if a soul (or a glub) would have self awareness beyond the 5 senses of the corporeal vessel.
Seems linear Hooda. Each with an A and a B side.
