My children and grandchildren will be here for dinner. My husband has always fixed the turkey, I do the rest. It has worked for 38 years, so why ruin a good thing? I read we could see a shortage of can pumpkin this holiday season. Doesn't effect me (since I don't care for it) but the rest of the family will be disappointed.

@m911y, why the shortage? Your day sounds lovely, great your husband helps so much with a large dinner like Thanksgiving. As far as pumpkin pie goes, I haven't made any in a very long time. Last Christmas if I remember correctly..lol, I had a piece made by someone else.
Not any different plans for me, last year I cooked for myself. It was a delicious dinner if I have to say so myself. :) This year, I just haven't decided if I will get all the fixings for it again or not. Still pondering on the idea. If I do, it will only be a breast, no whole turkeys for me, just to much left overs.
@sharjc..your day also sounds lovely. Have fun decorating the next day.
Are you both having turkey for dinner????
I will be spending about 3 days in Bolivar with my daughter. We all help with the meal. I live 25 miles away and there are 5 families down there. Works out fine.
Pumpkin Shortage:
Nestlé, whose Libby brand is far and away the nation’s most popular canned pumpkin, announced today that it might not have enough pumpkin for your pie.
“Our calculations indicate that we may deplete our inventory of canned Libby’s pumpkin as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Paul Bakus, vice president for Nestlé’s baking division.
Heavy rains in the Midwestern states where most commercial pumpkins are grown have caused the problem. Soggy fields have made it difficult for farmers to get harvesting equipment to the pumpkins. As a result, the harvest, which usually begins in the Midwestern pumpkin fields in August, was late in coming. Acres of pumpkins sit still unharvested in Morton, Ill., which the company calls the “pumpkin capital of the world.” Fungus is a big problem, so it is likely many of those pumpkins will be plowed under.
Because supply was already down from 2008’s lousy pumpkin harvest, there isn’t much back stock.
That's interesting, I haven't hear about it, that's why I asked. Thanks. I wonder how the Zoloffs in OR are doing, they have a pumpkin business. They have showed it many times on there TV show, I haven't watched them for sometime now, anyone out there watch them on TLC, lastly???
My three sons and their families are comming home for Thanksgiving...it will be a special day for me...I will spend the first of week getting most everything ready...I treasure every moment with them, because I have spent many Thanksgiving and other Holidays alone....so Lavender4u ,I WISH YOU WERE CLOSE BY,you could come celebrate with us...when I was alone..I did make the best of it...
There was something about the pumpkin shortage on TV a few days ago and then, I consulted my friend "Google" to get the information that I posted. Don't know if Oregon has been affected. Libby's gets most of theirs from Illinois.
Hate to show my ignorance but who are the Zoloffs?
@funforlee..thanks, that is so very nice of you. I too would love to be close and celebrate this Thanksgiving holiday with you and your family. I'm so please for you that you this year will have your family close to celebrate with.
@ barbara70 No ignorance, thanks for asking. They are a family reality show on TLC. They are a family of little people and normal size people. Both of them are little people, and 1 son and three other children are normal size. The one Zack who is a little person is a twin to Jeramie who is a normal size person. They are a very good family with all and sometimes more the ups and downs as anyone else. Try to watch it sometime if you can. TLC, Monday at 9:00pm EST, I believe. Maybe 8:00 if your central time. I'm sure with the money they have made from there show, it really doesn't make a big different in there money situation I don't believe. I was just wondering about them is all. Thanks again for asking.
This is funny, put I believe I just high jacked my own post. lol.. Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone. Have a wonderful day.
Oh!
I have seen the show at times. I simply did not know their names. Years ago, my daughter went to high school with a "Little Person". She was in the school show dance group and had a great attitude. One year, they did Wizard of Oz" and she she played the Mayor of Munchkin-land. It was great. Occasionally, I visit a Mennonite community. There is a "little person" there. I have seen her out and about. She is amazing. I did not realize that the TV show you were referring to was in Oregon. Is it coastal or Eastern Oregon?
