The Vauni Cupola Fireplace

The Vauni Cupola is a wall-mounted fireplace that clearly carries the Vauni identity. Its hemispherical shape expresses a dynamic, pioneering design. Perhaps the most characteristic feature is the unique profile which, combined with the light-weight aluminum body in black or white matt finish, makes an impressive yet slender wall-ornament. Cupola is as easily installed as a flat-screen TV. Hence, the possibilities of decorating with fire are endless. As with all Vauni fireplaces, the Cupola is equipped with an advanced, adjustable bio-ethanol burner that allows for vent-less, hassle-free firing. All in all the Vauni Cupola is more than just a fireplace – its like a sculpture even when unlit.

This product is producing mixed reactions in my mind.

First I want to say that, that is not possible. Why isn't the wall hot? How can it not need a vent (even though the blurb explained that)? How can a person just hang a whole fireplace, those are suppose to be heavy and dirty?

On the other hand it is small and space saving. A chair could be pulled right up to it. It doesn't use up floor space. It is a real fireplace with out rebuilding the house.

After all that back and forth, I still don't think I would get one.

Interesting. But I, too, would be worried about the wall getting hot and the need for a vent.

Some municipalities would require fire resistant wallboard behind it.

I liked the blurb about dynamic, pioneering design. What the heck does that mean? Pioneering? That style fireplace is ancient, going back well into the pre-history period. And 'dynamic'? Like a car? What the heck does 'dynamic' mean with regard to a fireplace?

Pretty though, isn't it.

It looks really cool (as in neato) but I have to agree it looks too good to be true. Where do the particulates go? Anything that burns produces gases and particulates and such ... and gets hot!

Also, you can't set your feet on the hearth to warm up your dogs.

More junk to push off on the American public. They all have a gimmick to sell a product. Usually not described accurately or truthfully.

Even the interior designer of the photoshoot didn't know what to do with it. Notice that it is on a wall a couple of feet from a window. And what is that under the window? A radiator. And another house close enough to pass a cup of sugar to. Where would you put a chair?

OK I'll stop. After all, someone a whole lot smarter than me is making a bundle on selling it!

I love the idea! But common sense tells me that there's a "catch" in this piece, somehow....either the "fire" is just an electric simulation, or there's some other way of venting a real flame.I've been a pyrophile all my life but only managed to live in one house that had an actual woodburning fireplace...heaven! There is NO substitute for a real deal.

It's pretty to look at and a daring concept but not for me.

The site says about it: "an advanced, adjustable bio-ethanol burner that allows for vent-less, hassle-free firing." and "No flue required, design control adjusts flame size."

So basically this is just for fireplace effect. Don't think you could get much warmth out of it.
