Sorry to hear about your neighbor. It's hard, seems like the older we get, this kind of thing hits us harder. I have my mom in the hospital right now, they think it's a TIA, she's better today than when I left her last night but I can see her confidence is gone.
Hope thing go better your way,

Suzie sorry to hear about your Mom and I hope she gets well fast. Defineltly will say a prayer for her also tonight.
I got her home this evening. She's doing quite a bit better, still having a few problems making connections but she's afraid this is the beginning of the end. Her spirits seemed a bit better when I got her back in her house though. It's just scary because you don't know if this will happing ever again or if it will happen tomorrow and how long it might last if it does happen. But her MRI and ultrasound of her carotids were good.
BUT guess Thanksgiving plans are back on for now.

I lost my next door neighbor a few years back, he was really a nice man.
He had retired from G.M many years before me and he would wait for me to get home to talk shop.
He was just the nicest man, I still miss him so I know how you feel.
So sorry to hear your bad news.
But I'm glad your mom is doing better.
Hope Thanksgiving is all you hoped it would be.
Yep bad news is always worse at the holidays. I lost my Mother, Dad and Aunt on Christmas eve and my Grandma on Thanksgiving. For years I would hold my breath until the Holidays were over. One day it just dawned on me that they all had other family than me that had gone before them and that they simply went "home" for the holidays. Just made everything seem better.
reefrider --- I have added Sonny to my prayer list. Good neighbors are to be treasured.
