Got Motivation?

I intentionally did not get on line when the cleaning gene was being handed out.
I have a to do list. Cleaning is always on it. When the only things left on the list are things I hate worse than cleaning, I clean.

I need motivation, need it badly. Had to come up with something to do with my brain, especially when the bathroom is calling for help. And the answer I came up with...........an ipod. My music gene was a recycled one that never worked well. But, not to fear, I got a reader's gene that works great.

Downloaded a book, a really good one. Then I made a promise to myself that the only time I would listen to it is when I'm cleaning.
Oooooooooh swiffer, where are you?

As with any good plan, there is always some tweeking involved. ipod tweeking took two evenings of hard brain work, hubby doing his best not to say nasty words,
and me, I had to be refrained on several occasions from dealing a deadly blow to my computer.

It is my firm belief that the younger generations produce all these gadgets just to confuse us more mature folks.

Got a motivational trick for something you hate doing but which has to be done?
Share, oh please share!!!!!!!!!! I have a lot of other things I hate doing.

Do things in 10 or 15 minute chunks. I set a timer. No matter where I am in the job, when the little dingy dingy goes off, I stop. Then another ten minutes tomorrow.

I dislike emptying the dishwasher......so I call a friend, and while we chat, I empty the dishwasher! Poof! It's done.

As for cleaning house, I don't like to do that, so I Decorate instead. I move things around to see if I like them somewhere else, and clean as I go....not because I am Cleaning but because I am Decorating!

And I fold clothes while I watch TV....

I don't have any motivational tips but you definitely have a comedy writer gene!

I'm definitely an ipod cleaner! I despise cleaning the bathroom, but if i listen to podcasts, I'm done before I get cranky about the whole thing! I'll usually listen when I wash the floor, too.

You and I are on the same page when it comes to cleaning, horsefly. I wait until things really bug me, then I clean - my car is on the list today; it has enough dog hair in it to stuff a pillow. The only sure way to get my house clean is to invite guests. That's motivation. Thanks for the music suggestion. I don't have an ipod but my old walkman still works.

ipoders? Where do you put your ipod and all that wiring? I almost strangled myself cleaning out the garage this morning. Mine keeps falling out of my pocket. I've hear there are arm bands but all of the ones I've looked at have bad reviews. Hard to believe people actually review ipod armbands.

Inviting guests would certainly be a motivator. Only problem is I get on that perfectionist kick when company comes. Rug shampooer, cleaning woodwork, bathing the dogs, and just cleaning the kitchen takes forever. My obsessive/compulsive character flaw takes over. Nothing stops my inner energizer bunny...........ohhhhhhhhhhhhh I feel an anxiety attack coming on just thinking about it.

Needless to say I have very little company.

My armband is a wide elastic strap with some velcro on it. works fine. But if it is the garage you are cleaning, why not just hook up your MP3 player to some serious speakers and blast out some Aretha. That should motivate you (and a few of the nearest neighbors) to boogey oogey oogey til you can't boogey oogey no more and clean the garage in the process. I personally like psychadelic funk for cleaning.
