Do you do any or all of your Christmas shopping early or do you wait to the last minute?
This year I got everything I want to get the grandbabies last week. I was out shopping the other day with my daughter for Chriatmas outfits for the boys pictures and was looking for something for my son's room. He needs a new comforter for his bed, I have already given him a new recliner so I'm not spending much more on him.
The other day we were talking about how cold the house was last year and how we hoped with the repairs that were done that it would be warmer. My son said if it were as cold as it were last year he wanted some pj's with feet. My daughter went on line and found some for men and bought them. He'll flip when he sees them. LOL If he really puts them on I'm taking his picture and sending it to his girlfriend. After that your all invited to my funeral. LOL
I think everyone has been out shopping in the past week or so. The store seems to be filled with people taking advantage of early sales. Shoppers are more prepared than usual this year. They come with lists, copies of the latest ad with specific items circled and, often, names written on the piece, and looking for good prices. I am having a hard time imagining anyone with major shopping to do the final week before Christmas. Except me, that is.
All those people I used to be related to -- gone. Today, the only person I get presents for are my wife, which is something of an advantage, since her tastes are simple. Expensive, but simple.
Best haul I ever got was the Christmas of 1951. I'd been a sick kid, and even I was kinda cute at that age (4.5 years), so I was on the receiving end of lots of nice presents. We moved soon after, and everything I had in the way of toys was left behind, but for a while I was rolling in piles of neat kid stuff.
Best gift I ever gave? Gee, I'm not sure I ever gifted anything to get excited about. Lemmee think a moment.... Oh wow. Absolutely nothing comes to mind, and I have a pretty good memory for trivia.
You guys are wondering how I can stand myself, am I right?
I shop all year around, mostly from catalogs Have one gift left to buy.
My son and I bought his wife a new recliner yesturday for her gift as she is having surgery next weds. wanted her to have it for her recovery.. Best gift I ever gave, same daughter-in-law needed a new car, I worked for a chrysler dealership they had this great end of year employee sale, I paid 1/2 used my employee discount, got her mother, dad, step mom, beother and sister and my son to pay the other half. We had our friend who plays santa all the time go to the nursing home where she works and brought her out, we had the car all decorated and he had the keys in his santa bag. All this on Christmas Eve. Great day. (2004 PT Cruiser) Best gift I ever got! My dog had just died and my son made a wooden box with is picture on the outside, and inside he had all his toys, collar and pictures.
Christmas shopping is over for me, jeanie. I used to wander the shops and also save up gifts from trips. Now we each bring one gift and have a gift exchange, whereby you never really know what gift you'll end up with. I bought something via Amazon I've always wanted: a radio-controlled indoor helicopter.**
Wurdguy ======= I was kinda cute at that age =======
Nothing has changed. Still adorable and still great to see you !!!
(*ahem*)
Anyway, I might be off the computer awhile, we'll see. Our beach weather is too good but very brisk. The Mojave calls: this is perfect high-desert weather.
Glad I decided not to have a second thumb operation: everything looking good and back to embarrassing myself full-bore, per usual.
Lori sends her best ! Hi to newslady, photogardner and people on thread-page #1 I can't see right now....

** This is for the big family Christmas being held at our house this year. Still must shop for Lori and Scout for our 3-person nuclear-family gig.
Actually, I bought a rather expensive book on architecture for Scout on Amazon last night while he instructed me by cellphone from San Diego. Call this "the New Christmas," aka e-Christmas. Lori bought her own present this year, which is her new Oreck. So that leaves...let me see...YES: EARRINGS!
I know what I will get: Ivory Soap. 3-In-1 Oil. Canned Soup.
EagleW, I cannot imagine how it'd be to have a daughter-in-law that I liked as much as you apparently do yours. Never had children, and while I cannot say I miss something I never had, still, I do have to believe you're a lucky woman.
We do most of our Christmas shopping on Dec. 10th and Dec. 24th - hubby's paydays. We don't buy much and don't have room to store things, so waiting til the last minute works out best for us.
PJ's with feet? That's great, where did you find them? I'd like to give a pair to my daughter for Christmas. We'd find it pretty amusing. Both my kids wore them until they were too big to wear them. I always shop starting in September. It became a habit starting when I was a single mom with two kids to support and didn't have much money. It ensured that I had enough things to put under the tree by the big day. I don't have anywhere near as many to buy now, so far I've only bought a book for my daughter I found in a second-hand store. She eats lots of salads and the book is full of recipes for salads.
