I have a front porch and a back deck and love both of them. In fact it may be the only things I like about my house.
I have an enclosed patio in the back of my house - that is my favorite place to be. Even in the winter time and it's snowing, if the sun is out, it warms up rather nicely in there!
I love outside spaces!
I recently had two trees removed in the front of my house. Next spring I am gonna build a courtyard with pavers and a short wall. It will be nice in the evenings as my covered patio that runs the whole back of my house gets evening sun and is too hot in the Texas summers.
I am also going to expand my backyard a little to accommodate a new greenhouse.
What about the lamp??? I guess I forgot to mention the lamp. This is an outdoor lamp. Turn it on and instant book reading nook. :))
I wondered about the lamp. Where do you buy an outdoor lamp? we have a deck across the back of the house with an awning over part of it for a "smoking room" for my husband. He'd love to have a lamp out there but it would need to be more weather-resistant than the usual lamp.
$2,740.00 is the price tag on the outdoor lamp at HomePortfolio.
Just in case you don't have a few spare thousand dollar bills laying around, try these websites for less expensive versions. (I am working on my "link" skills) lightingshowplace.com and
OutdoorLightingPlus.com
I have to tell you all that this post was a dud from the start. It was suppose to be about the LAMP not the patio. Of course I failed to mention the lamp or anything else about outdoor lighting in the post. So how was anyone to know.
I have a whole bucket full of patio, deck, and porch pictures that are a whole lot better than the one I posted. Soooooooooo, now I owe you a post on patios and a post about outdoor lighting!!! As soon as I recover from my embarrassment I will post them.
All I can say for myself is that my elevator doesn't always go to the top floor, especially late at night.
As the author of a great book once wrote.
Don't sweat the small stuff...It is all small stuff.
We love ya with or with out links, pictures or an bells and whistles at all.
Porches and decks are both special to me, and this is the first home that I have been able to incorporate both of them into the design. My porch is 3 season, insulated and windowed but not heated, 6 windows in a 12 x 16 area, SE exposure...it's my favorite place for relaxing and morning coffee from April thru October...Then there's my back deck which nearly spans the width of my house, 12 x24 with full west exposure..it is sheltered on the west by two blue spruce trees...Unbelievable privacy on a 50' city lot, it's my favorite evening spot, and when the fireflies come for their nightly convention, well; it doesn't get any better than that!
I love a porch because I love a porch swing and I can't stay in the direct sunlight very long. Don't be embarrassed horsefly - look at all the replies you got!!
I bought one of those outdoor lamps at Target, and I know that I didn't spend 2 grand on it! We had it out in the screen house. Love it.
My house has a very large deck in the back, but we would like to replace the wraparound porch that
somebody in the past removed : (
It probably was the same person who removed all the original carved molding - I'm guessing back in the 50's "modernization" phase. Bah. My house is over 100 years old and I sure wish they had left the details on it alone.
