Aggie Bonfire

November the 18th is the 10-year anniversary of the deadly Aggie bonfire that left 12 students dead.

Texas A&M students traditionally constructed a 59-foot tower of logs for the school's annual bonfire. It was a celebration of the school's big football game against their arch-rival, the University of Texas Longhorns.

On November 18, 1999, the tower was poorly constructed. It collapsed, killing a dozen students.

I can't believe it's been 10 years. That was such an awful accident. I felt so sorry for those killed and their families.

I can't believe it's been 10 years ago either. It really was such a terrible tragedy. Glad they are remembering the old with a memorial and memorial service but also going ahead with their newer design for a safer bonfire so they can continue the tradition.

Well said AJ.....tradition is so important to Aggies as are remembrances. Once an Aggie always an Aggie (or at least Bethany tells me so). She got her Aggie ring and she is SO EXCITED now.
