Misunderstandings about LTR

I know we have had this post before but I thought I would bring it up again for comment. Frequently, in online ads or in talking to singles they will say that what they are looking for is a LTR. LTR seems to mean different things to different people. In terms of time does that mean a year, 5 years, 10 years or for the rest of your life? I asked one person what he meant and he just answered by saying, "whatever". Just what is your take on LTR and what does it mean to you personally?

To me it's not about the length of time but an indicator that the person is not interested in players. Life is not a game, and at this age, who needs to waste time on anyone that is just interested in sex.

LTR - Longer Than Right now. hahahaha

It means, to my mind, someone who would be open to a permanent, exclusive, relationship, not someone who is only looking to date around with no commitment.

I think it is a nice idea to let folks know where you stand on this. If you are really not interested in any kind of steady, exclusive relationship, it is a courtesy to say so up front.

What it means to me is that the person is there for the long haul....good,bad and the ugly. For the rest of our lives.....that doesn't happen unless LOVE is there.

To me it means...you are who I want to spend the rest of my life with...but...since there are no guarantees in life (other than taxes and death)..it is what we hope to have happen...

To me if a person is going to say LTR they might as well say "marriage". I know it's a horse of a different color but isn't it still a horse? C'mon I think most people are playing games with this LTR stuff.

Sounds like someone not looking for players but a true relationship that comes with all the good, bad and evil. I guess its different then "complicated" relationship (I still hate that one)...

LTR..no games, he/she is looking for a serious relationship, how long is up to the both of them...in short no one night stands...

To me a LTR is a Committed Relationship where both people agree to be manogamos. You Love that person and you want it to last forever.

Marriage is different because it is a legal agreement. Depending on your personal circumstances, it can cause people to lose all or part of a pension, SSI or insurance benefits. Then if the marriage doesn't work out you are really screwed! If the Love is truly there, do you need a piece of paper to prove it? You can make a will that includes a SO, if that makes you feel more secure.

pattikake as usual you are so absolutely right. As for proving it, the only person I have to prove it to is the one I'm with...
