Strike Two

First of all, a clarification. A couple of weeks ago, I complained that the American Cancer Society was backing down on their suggestion that men have a prostate cancer test every year. I was wrong. The instructions were correct but the organization was the U. S. Preventative Services Task Force, a panel which is part of the Federal Department of Health and Human Services.

Now, this same group is telling women that they can wait until 50 to have mamms and only have them every two years. Next they will be telling women to have only have pap smears every three years. I know many of you didn't agree with me, but I still think these changes are meant to change thinking so that when a National Health Plan is passed, we Seniors will cost them less money. After all, they have to keep their promise to cut Medicare spending so that they can pay for this health monster they are creating.

You may be on to something there.

I definitely think you are on to something. Gradually, healthcare that is covered by insurance will be less and less. Now the the government (.....sidebar...none of the members in the group who are now recommending that women only get mammograms after 50 are oncologists) will push this new agenda, opening the door for insurance companies to only cover the test if you are over 50. Those who want to do the smart thing and start being tested at 40 will pay for those tests themselves.

My health insurance went up $81 per month, and all my deductibles went up 30% or more. Last year I had one doctor's appointment, and one test. I paid my $25 co-pay. This year I will pay $992 for those.

Everybody knows that we seniors are not good for anything anymore. We are a burden on society, so our medical benefits can be cut.

I agree with your opinion !!
And this is just a sample of what is going to happen...with the "New Health Plan" that will be "available for everyone"!
Available? Yes. Affordable? NO. Government wins..again.

This is an interesting excerpt from the article:

"While many women do not think a screening test can be harmful, medical experts say the risks are real. A test can trigger unnecessary further tests, like biopsies, that can create extreme anxiety. And mammograms can find cancers that grow so slowly that they never would be noticed in a woman’s lifetime, resulting in unnecessary treatment. "

What a steaming pile.

Besides, a big juicy conspiracy theory is so much more fun. I think someone saw Obama in the back room of the WH, with some of his cohorts, trying to come up with ways to kill seniors.

Ok...read the article....
It's not our fault that there's no funding for more research...to see why some cancerous lesions are deadly and some aren't.

The mammograms...starting at age 40...are working, in detecting cancer early. The self-exams are working. Why would they want to change this? We know why. (re: top post by pattiwatt)

If that committee was composed of ALL women, I really think this wouldn't have happened...could be wrong...just my opinion.

My aunt died 3 yrs. after being diagnosed with breast cancer and having a breast removed. Her health care was through the VA. (Free...to her...she was in the Army) She complained of pain in her hip..and various other joints...but the hip was the worst. They just kept giving her pain medication. When they finally did decide to do further testing, it was too late. The cancer had metastisized into her bones. She took the chemo, got down to nothing, and couldn't even drink water because it burned her mouth and throat so bad.

That is an example of 'FREE' healthcare through the government.
