i agree.i thought the big day for Christmas was suppose to be Friday right after Thanksgiving.
true ,you don't have to be a Christian to give thanks to someone for giving you something,it could even be anywhere from a body part to holding a door or helping in some way.hmmm, how did paths happen to cross?
Well will since your the only reply I guess it is forgotten.. Gee I think it's perfect..
yeppers.always a big thing here.since i came from a big family ,a long time ago it was nice to visit with my siblings and their families except for those that lived a greater distance.now since all are raising families and the folks are long gone its still big thing to get the kids and grandkids together.good to see em and glad when its over.like i mentioned that alone is being giving thanks.
BWA, for some reason this is the first time I've seen this thread.
Thanksgiving has always been big in our family, and among the people I know it hasn't been forgotten at all.
But I don't think the stores make as much money off of Thanksgiving as they do Christmas and some of the other holidays, so that's why there's not as many commercials and store displays and sales and such.
Maybe if it were further away from Christmas it would get the recognition it deserves.
Your right about being too close..Never thought of that.
even if thankgiving was in August or September, they would be getting ready for Christmas, have you noticed that after the first of the year the Valentine stuff is out.
I have a problem with most holidays. Because there is always expectation of something emphemeral, and that thing rarely ever comes to pass. Used to mean more to me when my Grandparents and Mom were around. Now I would be pleased to skip the last 2 months of every year.
Kinda have ta agree with you cat. It would be great if we (country just did (focus on) Thanksgiving. But it's not gonna happen.
It's this week, folks! And while I could sit around feeling pitiful because my mother and grandmother chose to make plans with others and not my family, I'm choosing to be glad that they both are going to be where they will be happy this year, and that I get some special time with my hubby and younger two children.
It's been a year of changes to be Thankful for: Daddy died and went to Heaven, daughter is back in public school and happy because she's around her friends, son has learned some hard lessons about being an adult but he IS learning, hubby's job is secure and he'll be getting a lot of overtime pretty soon, we moved to a home in town and there are a lot of advantages we have here that we didn't have in the country, none of our animals had to be put to sleep when we moved because they all found new homes, our health has been good this year, I've read a ton of good books, I found Facebook and Eons this year, online I met new friends and reconnected with old ones, God provided the money we needed for moving in the time frame we needed it, hubby and I have been clean and sober yet another year, both kids have stayed away from negative influences and made good decisions for the most part this year, older son came back from Iraq safely, I have a new grandbaby on the way....I could go on and on, but you see that I have SO MUCH to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
Thats great of not looking at the negativeness of what goes on around one and that is a big something to be thankfull for.
there is still a big chasm in this land that needs to be bridged and i do not see any from the GOP stepping foward and there are some in the Demo. party that need to help with that.i believe Obama if given the chance will imbrace a coalition to help those have a better life.
i know i get tired of hearing of so many bad things in this country and around the world.
BTW,has there ever been a none news day, where every one turns off tv,radio, computer and no newspapers? ahhh how settling that would be.
