It seems that it was just some sort of tool Microsoft released, not Windows 7 in its entirety.
Surprisingly, their response was good -- they swiftly stopped distributing it, and are going to re-release it as an open-source tool. (Granted, it'd be better to not violate the GPL in the first place...)
well, i like finding things like this. because microsoft does use open source more than people think.
read that a bunch of the servers they use to get out updates run on linux. thought that was funny
because microsoft sells servers.
My understanding is that they use Akamai as a CDN to host most of those files. And Akamai uses whatever works best as a server, so they run Linux. :)
The time.windows.com service that Windows computers use to keep their clocks synchronized was, quite amusingly, using a redhat.com timeserver as an upstream provider for a while. Now that was amusing.
i need to go look and find it again., but, on microsoft's site , they have a page that say folks should
be leary of linux as it is a virus and gives instructions on how to get linux off of a machine.
have met a couple of people i was trying to help who really believe this load of crap from microsoft.
they got the blue screen and told me it cost them $150 for the shop to fix it but they were broke.
i offered to show them how to use to a live cd to get back on the net till they had the funds to fix
that box. man, they were cussing me for wanting to infect their machine.
