Since I retired May 2009, I spend lots of time with my girls. We are usually home alone; sooo we have long conversations. We also play with string toys on a stick and the lazer light. I try new things, as I think of them; such as rolling-up small paper balls for the girls to chase and letting the girls play with boxes:-)
I think Pesu' has a bazillion toys and one of her very favorites...is a brown grocery bag she either finds, or if I throw one in the middle of the room for her to play with! I remember once I was straightening up, and went to pick up the empty bag, only upon trying to pick it up...found her sound asleep in the bag!
I'll have to try to paper bag:-)
When Shala is feeling well she loves to play with a boot string, balls, laser light, boxes and bags. When I get her from sleeping she really love her balls the best. I get more excerise then she does. I throw them down the hallway and she chases them, then I come back and get the ball and throw it up the hallway. We do this for about 15 minutes and then I am tired out and she goes on to something else. I should lose weight for all the running I do, but my legs are tired, yet I weigh the same.
I guess Shala needs to give you a more intense work out, or cut down on the treats, (ie. fudge) lol
Jeanne, you keep trying to take away my treats. Don't you know that it is my fuel to run down the hall to chase balls down for my Shala. If I did not have my fudge, I wouldn't beable to get down the hall way as many times as Shala wants me to. So see, you would be hurting the play time of Shala...More fudge please...LOL
I also have lots of one-on-one time with my pets. The three dogs and I go for a one-hour walk almost every day. Sometimes Smootch, our tom-cat walks along with us; we have met all of our neighbors that way. The cats love to play ball (something I am still trying to teach my dogs to do), follow the laser dot, crawl into cabinets that I open, and we play with a string that has an attached feather. When we eat or relax in our chairs, even when we sleep all are next to us somewhere close by. Lots of one-on-one that way! Wherever I am, my "shadows" as my hubby calls them, are close by.
I feel very bad for my cat Lenny. I'm at work all day, and at night because he is such a vocal cat, I close my bedroom door. Poor thing never really gets to be with me....
At night I have a behavior problem with him because he is in constant need of my attention. Can't say that I blame him, but the moment I put him down after holding him, instead of jumping back up on my lap, he will do what he's not suppose to do to get attention from me. Right now that attention getter is going under my desk and being in the cords, and yes he has disconnected the computer. I try so hard not to do anything but I have to...and he looks like he enjoys that bad attention.
I had a cat like that Mary. My daughter use to say he was like a child. He would do what he knew I did not want him to do, but with my daughter he was a perfect angel. He actually had fun doing what he was not suppose to do and I did finally ignore what he was doing and he finally stopped.
I squirt him with the waterbottle, but I think he likes it... he opens his mouth.
