The Queen in 3D

For the past hour, I've been watching an astonishingly fantastic TV programme never seen before. The film was found only recently in an attic.

It shows pics of the Coronation (1953) in spectacular 3D but we needed to watch it though these funny 3D glasses.. The fact that I know personally two people who were on the programme made it even more interesting. (One of them was the Queen's Swan Keeper and the other was an eye-witness of the procession in 1953.) The second hour comes tomorrow. If it ever comes to BBC America, do try and see it, but you will need to find 3D glasses.

Oh I will for sure. We got our first TV to watch the coronation. It was a tiny 9" screen or something like that. The neighbours came in to watch. Funny how back in those days people would actually stand when the National Anthem played, or remove their cap or whatever. Remember in the cinema. You either got out 5 mins ahead or stood and waited for the National Anthem.

I remember watching the Coronation, in black and white, of course, but I don't think we would have had a TV then so we would have watched at a neighbour's.

The astonishing thing about this footage is that is in colour AND 3D. I haven't seen 3D pictures since I was given a "Viewmaster". Anyone else remember those? view link

I was working in London at the time of the Coronation, and a group of us determined to see it in peson, so like millions of others, we camped out on the street, the night before, I don't remember exactly where, but we saw the procession coming and going. I was just 17 and it was a fun adventure.

Wow lucky you Surrey! I think that would be absolutely thrilling as she is one of my favorite people. Such class that woman has and she is so pretty the way she dresses...

Scott this TV film sounds great. We just got satellite TV and I am pretty sure we have BBC programs so I will be on the lookout for it. Only prob is I don't have any 3D glasses

I somehow envy those memories. The experience of being out on the streets like that waiting for something so special. A once in a lifetime experience, and here are two of you who remember. Thats so cool. I will always love the Royal family and I admire most of them, its been good to see them grow and change and learn and become better. It would never be an England, or a Britain without them. They are the continuity the glue that holds the country together. I believe that its not until you live somewhere else that maybe one appreciated just how much strength they give the people.
