I have a friend who thought she would be so bored if she retired. Well, she retired in September and hasn't had a boring moment yet. She's redecorating her house and she and her husband plan to go to Myrtle Beach for a week or two and might even visit us at our winter place in Florida. She's also had time to read all the books she'd saved up. She wonders why she didn't do it sooner. That wasn't my fault; I kept telling her how much fun retirement was. LOL!
Don't forget the Silver Sneakers program through Medicare. You can sign up at a participating Curves and attend for free. There's three days a week with something to do.
Friends here in Charleston, SC have gotten more involved with church work since he retired. And he's a lot happier now. My retired hubby works with hospice at home in PA and is involved with church ministry.
Me? I read, do needlework, garden, surf the internet, and take care of my health. Ride my scooter to Curves three days a week. Wheeeee! I never felt better.
I just sat down at the Social Security web site and decided I would start taking SS benefits at 62. That doesn't mean I am going to quit working though. I am going to continue to work part-time (more part-time than I have been working, I hope). I might even go back to "casual" labor. I want more time to travel.
LoL Techie, sounds like you have a wonderful life...Ma, you can do is a web search to find out what is going on in you City, that is one way to find activities.

I retired as soon as I reached 65 to get almost full benefits--needed to go to 65 and 6 months for full. My husband had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma 2 years before and gone through treatment and we were ready for out 7 week trip to Alaska. We made that trip and another trip back east before he passed away from cardiac problems related to the aggressive treatment. I definately made the right decision and though finances are a little tight, I'm glad to be out of the work force.
I now have time to read, hike, walk every day, go out to lunch every week with other retired nurses, go to Jazzercise twice a week and work around my almost 2 acres. If I was still working, I couldn't do any of it.
I will have to check into that Curves deal when i turn 65..that is if it's still around. Is there any thing for the men??? My hubby is 65 and needs to trim down some weight.
Call the local gyms and ask if they participate in the Silver Sneakers program. I found one for hubby in Florida where we're spending the winter. It's got resistance machines that I think he'll like better than the weight machines. I think Gold's Gym may be a member of the program, too. Good luck to your hubby.
Mawitch..if you still enjoy working ,thats great! But as for me-I would love to be able to take my alarm clock out back and shoot it! I got my first job when I was 12 and for many years I worked 2 jobs--I am tired. I can think of about a million things I could be doing if I just had the time!

Hi Gang...I am semi-retired.
I only work 3 nights a week...as opposed to 5 or 6.
I enjoy some free time...and like to visit w/ friends...and go out to eat.
I am not much for the fitness stuff, but like to walk.
I always have plenty to do around the house and with the animals.
I will retire fully when I turn 65...Unless I change my mind and decide to call it quits...sooner.

Even when you have time..there's just not enough of it to do what you want! You so deserve a break from working, Pat. Well i am off to the studio before i have to do the ironing. The hubby sent me back with all the dirty shirts after i met him in San Antonio last weekend.
