Norfolk.....................

Did we do Norfolk yet? Well here goes.

Norfolk is a low-lying county in the East of England. It has borders with Lincolnshire to the west, Cambridgeshire to the west and southwest and Suffolk to the south. Its northern and eastern boundaries are the North Sea coast, including The Wash. The county town is Norwich. Norfolk is the fifth largest ceremonial county in England,

Within Norfolk (north folk) is the beautiful Norfolk Broads. An intricate web of rivers and lakes. A place we spent our annual holiday. We stayed at Wroxham in a rented cabin with a boat. My dad and uncle enjoyed fishing. My friend from the farm always came with us and we looked for boys as far as I recall..............we went in to Yarmouth and Norwich often during our two weeks. Dad got friendly with the neighbour who owned the home next door (not a rental) so we saw him several years in a row. Dad also got to know a local Publican (naturally) and they ended up friends as well, went on fishing trips. My dad made friends no matter where we went. My mum was the complete opposite from him.

The flat East Anglia area is almost unknown to me. The only time I went to Norwich was by express train to deliver a 20 minute long keynote speech to a conference then I headed back for a funeral of a chum. Unfortunately, the train broke down in Colchester so I knew I would miss the funeral. But it allowed me to phone a cousin who I hadn't seen in 40 years who lived in Colchester and we had a reunion at the station!

As I knew I would miss the funeral, I didn't take the next train and waited for the next to spend more time with my cousin. I caught the next train (they run every hour) but it broke down at the next station! I was well pissed-off by the end of the day.

Oh dear, I am sure you would be by then Scotbrit. Well maybe when you see some of the pictures you will decide to go check out the Broads. Taffy, I assume you were refering to the lakes when you say you like to check out the Broads??????
So...............I know several people in the group are familiar with Norfolk. I did this area once before, not Norfolk but just the broads and so I will try to find some pictures.
Great Yarmouth was a favorite place for my folks. Remember candy floss (cotton candy) and Rock mmmmmmmm.

These are not from my family, but they could be. I remember my Nan and Granddad and others wading in the sea in their coats and hats.

It is a fantastic idea to do the counties. But I am behind and was wondering , how do I find the post on the counties already done?

This post makes me as happy as a sandboy!

I love those little rental house on the beaches that you rent for the day. Do they have an "official" name?

I went to the beach in Dorset and it was all rocky...ouch! on the feet.

HippyGirl - they're simply called beach huts.

They originated in the Victorian era as a private place where you could change your clothes without being seen. They are not meant to be used as sleeping accommodation though I know of a few times when some folks got so drunk, it was the only place they could find to sleep it off.

Nina - I use photobucket. Once I have uploaded to photobucket, I then use the html code to post pics here.

We would go to Wroxham, it was a very small village back then. I know it has grown a lot but it remains a holiday center with rentals and boats to hire. Great fishing.

The rentals can be right on the river.

The river Bure goes through Wroxham I believe

There are many places to stop and fish or get out and walk and explore.

Norwich is the county town of Norfolk. This is Elm Street an intact Medievel Street.

Tour Norfolk link......great pictures of the cathedral and the older parts of Norwich. Great list of things to do and places to see. If you have never visited Norfolk there is plenty to do and see.

Norwich Cathedral.....we had to stop there whenever we went to Norwich.

The structure of the cathedral is primarily in the Norman style, having been constructed at the behest of Bishop Herbert de Losinga between the late 11th century and about 1145.(Wiki)
We always used to stop at anywhere historical and I am glad for that. Even as a kid I loved old buildings
