Medical Care
Good morning Squeakers,
This week, I saw 2 great stories about healthcare on the Today Show and House Call with Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN.
For our members in and around the Philadelphia area, specifically Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, this is for you. Several years ago, Dr. Lorna Stuart left her successful medical practice to open a clinic, called The Clinic, in Phoenixville, PA. Other physicians, nurses, and clerical staff volunteer their time at The Clinic. Dr. Stuart's clinic sees patient's without insurance and does not put a price on a doctor's visit. They ask for a contribution at the end of your visit. This can be 50 cents, $1.00, whatever you can afford to pay, but you are not turned away if you cannot pay. Dr. Stuart and her staff are now seeing over 70 patients a day and they may have to find a larger building soon. Please Google Dr. Lorna Stuart's name or The Clinic in Phoenixville, PA, and you can read the story. If you or your family or friends live in the area, there is a caring clinic where you can be seen without insurance.
In Rhode Island, Dr. Andrea Arena and her partner opened a doctor's office and vowed to take care of patient's the way it was done 60 years ago. They also make house-calls. They have reformed the way they operate their practice so they can keep cost down and help their patients. Please Google Barrington Family Medicine, it is at 60 Bay Spring Avenue in Rhode Island. These may be 2 physicians you would like to see for your health care if you live in the area.
These 3 women are reforming healthcare. I wish other physicians would take notice and follow in their footsteps.
