Tess Gerritsen TV series...

Apparently TNT is planning on doing a series based on Tess Gerritsen's Jane and Maura books. Here's a link, Angie Harmon will be in it. view link Anyway this is the plan if the pilot passes muster, as Gerritsen says. And here are some other cast members: Sasha Alexander will play Dr. Maura Isles.
Bruce McGill will play Detective Vince Korsak.
Jordan Bridges will play Frankie Rizzoli, Jane’s troublesome brother.
Lee Thompson Young will play Jane’s partner, Barry Frost.

The surprise for most of my readers will be Barry Frost. In the books, he’s a pale blonde. In the TV series, he’s an African-American — a nice development, as it sets up some hilarious tension and conflict between him and Vince Korsak, who’s famous for not being politically correct.

No word yet on who will play Gabriel Dean.

This sounds good and hope it goes through. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I need to go back & re-read some of her stuff. Hopefully this will do better than some of the latest attempts to translate book series to TV. What was with the series "Murder Woman's Club" based on the Patterson books. And did the series about the female detectives in Botswana (heck, my mind has gone) come back for a 2nd year?
"Bones" is the only success I can think of & of course it's NOTHING like the books.

I agree with you on the failure of tv to adopt a good series to their format. It has to do with the abysmal writing the series have had and the chose of actors. They tend to go for looks instead of talent. Ever notice that pbs or bbc series do not use physically perfect people for their actors?

I would like to see this happens. Her books are so good. Hopefully it would translate better than some of the others mentioned.

It makes me nervous seeing Angie Harmon in a role in the hoped for Gerritsen series. I've never been a fan of hers, and really can't picture her in the role, even if I WAS a fan. :( But I'm going to stay hopeful.

The series about the Botswana woman detective, I read somewhere that the actress who played the detective said that it was up in the air as to whether or not the show would be back for another season. I'd like it if it was.

That Murder Women's Club series was soooooo lame!

I agree, the writing and casting for these shows is terrible, such a shame, too, when they're based on a good book or series of books.

Just as some info - I have always enjoyed Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan series and was initially disappointed in the TV interpretation. Then I read an interview with Kathy Reichs and she said this Temperance is younger than the one in her books and that the TV series is recounting her life years before the time in the books. That helped me to connect with the character in the TV series, and I do enjoy it now.

Interesting, azkat! I'm wondering how long Bones will last, and if, indeed, we'll see the later years of Tempe....

I can't see Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli at all. I like her, but I'm hoping they didn't make a huge mistake with this casting. Hopefully there will be some decent writers and that they don't take too much liberty with material from the books.

I also read in one of Kathy Reich's notes at the end of one books that the TV Temperence Brennan is based on a much younger version of herself.

I like the Bones series on TV but I didn't know it was her younger life. Good to know. I'd like to see the Tess Gerritson series take off too. I\The books were great.

Very interesting about Gerritsen's books going into series format. I HOPE they get some good writers for it - like, how about Gerritsen?(!) I'm going to have to look up the actors, everyone except Angie Harmon. I'm not sold on her, either.

I agree with you, mongomjal, on the Brit tendency to cast for talent rather than perfect looks in their actors and wish we would follow suit over here more.
