Festival Of Britain

I am no sure how I missed ever hearing of this, or had forgotten if I did. I would really like input if anyone remembers it. What a great idea for after the war, to try to pull yourself out of the rubble. I wish I had time to write it all out for you but here is the link to Wikipedia. The emblems are really good.
Please check it out.

I remember it well although I was only 8 years old.

One of my sisters visited London for a few days to the festival and brought back many souvenirs, including button badges bearing the emblem (or logo) which I wore with pride to my school, basking in reflected glory. As a young boy who had never travelled more than 30 miles from my birthplace (Glasgow), I considered the Festival of Britain to be the eighth wonder of the world.

Every time I go to the South Bank and see the concrete buildings there, I am always reminded of the festival.

Herbert Morrison was the grandfather of Peter (now Lord) Mandelson, who has been in and out of favour for the last 20 years with the Labour Party. view link

Dancer, do you mean mine? Not sure. When I went to Wikipedia to look it up, I did a hyperlink as a choice, and it just inserts.
Thank you so much, Scotbrit. What a wonderful event it must have been. Has there been anything like it since then, do you know?

I remember going to the Festival of Britain. For some reason, my favourite exhibit was the Shot Tower.

I can't think of one pamsilva.

I think half of the idea was to ensure the Great Exhibition (Prince Albert's Idea) of 1851 was commemorated a century after - without going to the expense of the former, but leaving a legacy of buildings that could be used for many years - which is in contrast to the Great Exhibition of 1851 which has nothing left of it. Not even the foundations!

I know I never went, my parents never did anything like that. (I never knew what I was missing) I did not realize that "Festival Hall" was a part of all that.
Is that the only festival of that type? well there had been exhibitions before it as Scotbrit says and it seems Britain is always up for a celebration. Maybe not to that extent but they go all out for things like The Queens Jubilee and so on. Then there was the Crystal Palace and I am sure lots of other things over the years.

The Chrystal Palace was part of the 1851 exhibition in Hyde Park and after the Great Exhibition was closed, the main pavilion was moved in it's entirety to Chrystal Palace, south London. view link

What I cannot get my head around is that a wrought iron and glass building could have been destroyed by fire.
