AGE

What are your most successful remedies for getting beyond age discrimination?

I believe we first have to accept that age discrimination is a fact in our life and meet it head-on and not for one minute dwell on it. If a politician who is 72 years old can run for President of the United States, then us "baby boomers" can do anything. I do think that companies, both big and small, are realizing that we have so much to offer.

I am very fortunate to work at my full-time job at home in an industry where my knowledge and skill is needed. I started my part-time pet-sitting business and have earned the trust and respect of my clients. They trust an older person to take care of their pets and their home.

I know my limitations regarding my age and I adjust my life accordingly. I don't set myself up to be discriminated against.

I would also like to say that being involved with Eons has really made my life better. I have made new friends and have learned so much.

The one thing I wish our society would work harder on to change is our nursing homes. That is where the mindset is that if we are old and become sick we are just put in a nursing home and sometimes forgotten about.

I say enjoy our age and let the world know we have much to offer, and we should help our young people with our knowledge.
