A challenge

I want to lose ten pounds by the end of January and do this inspite of the holidays and still enjoy treats from each holiday I celebrate. Think I can do it? Well I am determined and so I'll need your support. I need you to ask me about it if I forget to post how I'm doing. I started today. So everytime I lose a pound which won't be easy because I'm on insulin and oral meds that cause weight gain and I have medical problems that prevent me from doing normal exercise. BUT I am determined. It is a reasonable goal so I'm hoping you will all help to cheer me on. Does anyone want to take up the challenge and join me? Ten pounds shouldn't be that hard to do. The best part will not be putting on weight during the holidays. So help keep me working toward my goal. and I'll help motivate those of you who join the goal with me. Don't chose your goal weight or what you like to get down to just chose ten pounds. After that if we want to keep it off that can be our second goal and loseing ten more if needed or wanted can be our Feb. to april goal. Anyone want to try? We have to report to each other at the beginning of each week on how we are doing even if it is we stayed the same or gained a pound. Those things happen but by the end of January 2010 I will have lost ten pounds and that is my promise to myself and to you. Now watch me work. And also remember if we only lost seven or eight we did not fail we are seven or eight pounds lighter so that is a win situation. But I'm promising to lose ten. How about you?

Hi Taylor,

Timing is everything. I had been going to our local "Y" 3x a week and doing a seniors step aerobics class and following it up with an hour of nautlis since this past January.

However, this past Wednesday I began a 4 week pre-skin cancer treatment and won't be able to work out until near the end of next month. BUT, your challenge may be just the thing to keep me on the straight and narrow while I'm going through this treatment and more tempted by being around food over the holidays. So, I'm into your challenge. I'll check in with you on a daily basis and use you as a sounding board on how you're doing and how I'm doing. I look forward to working with you on this.

Taylor, I accept your challenge. I started a week ago today toward the same goal and am down 2.5 lbs as of today. Guess that means skipping my workout today on the treadmill is not an optipon. Good luck to you and to everyone who joins us,

I'm so thrilled and proud of all of you. I'm on metiformen and have been for fifteen years yet several years ago I lost over 60 pounds taking that, glybride, and insulin and getting cortizone shots. If I can do it anyone can. If your back hurts too much to walk try to find an indoor pool in your area and do pool walking. I have to pool walk as I have a curved spine and arthritis. I need to rejoin. We can do this. If we make it to ten pounds we can scream with pleasure and if we only make it to seven pounds that is great too and better then adding seven and blaming the Holidays. r37774 Wow! 2.5 pounds already. That is great. I started on Thursday and I was down 2 pounds this morning but that for me is water weight not fat but the excess fat will be leaving soon. Lets choose Monday as the days we tell how much we lost or had a slight set back. I know my body it likes to drop weight one week and nothing the next then a lot the third and nothing the fourth. I've always been like that so it doesn't worry me any more. Our bodies all lose differently and men lose faster then women since they have more muscle. This Monday won't be as high as other Mondays since we will only have a few days behind us but who cares every monday after that will be our turning point. if we are losing, great. If not we know we are doing something that isn't working well and we will help each other to fix it. No scolding only loving help. We can do this.
Anyone else?

I forgot to add, drink a lot of water. It does help. If you hate water add lemon, marachino cherry (not the juice) a packet of splenda or something to make it go down easier. Water helps to keep you hydrated, makes you feel fuller, and helps wash the fat out of your body as it breaks down. I'm not going to give you a total limit just increase what you do now. Don't go buying special diets, just eat healthy, count your carbs and limit portion sizes. Men can have slightly larger portions then women. Good luck everyone.

Remember ladies we do not have to anounce to the group what we weight just how much we lost... So don't fail to join in because you don't want to disclose your weight. We are not asking that just did you lose and did it have an impact on your diabetes. If the challenge goes well we can choose to do another one in Feruary after giving ourselves a one week break. The break isn't so we can go back to old habits. It is to see if eating a little more food then usual will trick our body into not going into starvation mode. Sometimes staying on a lower calorie eating style makes our body hit a plateau. Then we don't lose anything. So giving it a week of normal eating before starting a new challenge can help to prevent that.

Taylor,

I decided to begin the challenge TODAY, as opposed to mid-week. Just easier keep tabs. For me, this is a great incentive and motivator so thanks for issuing the Challenge. I look forward to checking back in with you next Monday with some positive results.

I'm proud of all of you for your weight loss. I'm not going to join your challenge because I'm always under a lot of stress this time of year. I don't want the added stress of the diet challenge. It is just too hard for me to lose weight at this time of the year with all the Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas dinners and I also have the added celebration of my birthday in December. I am going to cut back on my eating with all of you but I'm not going to post my weight loss, gain or stand still. That is one reason why I never did too good with weight watchers. I would get so down on myself when I didn't lose weight and starve myself the day before the weigh in or just give up on the whole thing and quit. I just do better on a diet and keep it all to myself. .
