Group Project

We all know this can happen. It's the middle of the night and our spouse wakes us to tell us something is wrong. We call 911 and wait for the paramedics to arrive. Soon we are off to the ER.

As part of my goal to reduce stress in my life, having a bag prepared with all the things I may need for the next 24 to 48 hours would be wise. Who has time to think about what they need when the paramedics are all over your bedroom???

Now your part:

What items should we have in the bag????

I'm going to use one of those reusable bags they sell at the food store. Once packed, I will place it in the closet and have it ready as need.

Our hospital of choice is fairly close by, and if (when) that day comes, the able-bodied of the two of us can either come back here to the house to pick stuff up, or have it brought by our live-in gopher.

However, you have a point, it'd be good to work out exactly what needs to go to the hospital.

There are four people living under this roof, and that includes my mother-in-law and the boarder (a.k.a., gopher). In each of of our wallets/purses is a list of the medications we take, and we all take something. My wife, the one who put those lists on our persons, is a hospital pharmacist, and she knows the value of being able to tell the hospital staff exactly what meds one is taking.

She and I also have written lists of people to call in an emergency. I have those numbers in my cellphone, as well as written on the back of that aforementioned card in my wallet.

Just for fun, this weekend, I'll bring up the subject of what should be put into a go-bag. I know we're to take our meds and a toothbrush....

Thank for taking part in this project. Lots of input from people will give us a better list.

My first item is deodorant, hospitals don't supply it very often.

I really had a go-bag (don't need one now...)

It had a sweater (hospitals are notoriously cold)

A handheld computer game - Yathzee

$5 in cash - in change for vending machines

A book of crossword puzzles.

A book I wanted to read

A current list of medications - to hand off to ER docs (I would grab it off the fredge on the way out)

2 lollipops - they kept my husband occupied during the wait

A copy if his medical POA and living will on a memory stick.

This is an excellent idea that I never even considered. We have not had to call 911 yet, but I am sure as my husband's cancer progresses the need will come.
Thank you for posting this idea.
