What do you do when you're bored ?

Give us some ideas of what else we could do when we are bored by sharing those things you do when you get bored.

Perhaps you don't get bored and are the kind of person who is always busy doing something, still it would be interesting to hear of any ideas you have that others may like to try to pass the time.

Is there anything you've always wanted to do when you were bored but never dared.

Have you ever been bored when someone has been explaining something to you, how did you deal with it.

I can remember a time at work when I had absolutely nothing to do at all, not even the hope of looking for something to do as I'd exhausted every option and the only thing left considering I had to look like I was doing something was to count empty sheets of paper until the clock moved on enough to allow me to go home.
That was the most mind numbingly bored I have ever been in my whole life.

Have you ever had a time like that ?

When I am bored, I usually watch a movie, as I love movies. I did read a lot but not so much anymore. I might call a friend and schedule a lunch or I will go to lunch on my own.

Round here when I ever have chance to get bored I'd probably get stuck into more throwing out.
Although it is possible to get bored with doing that too.

I would love a chance to finish my cross stitch picture so I can allow myself to look at others to do.

I have some dvds that I like to watch, just my own special ones which are usually sentimental or a bit psychic in some way.

At the moment though in what spare time I may get I play the Wii Sports Resort as that really takes me out of myself and transports me to another place altogether. I would recommend this even if a person was on their own as it keeps them fit and has lovely scenery especially when playing the golf.

my problem is that any boredom seems to link to a black mood so I never feel like doing anything. As in bored but I don't care!

Oh dear I am having a negative mood today.

I think I'm with Tabbs. I get bored when I'm down.

One answer is for me to go out and do something, but sometimes, even often, I find thats not easy. Boredom links to depression, depression leads to anxiety, which means I can't go out without a huge effort.

When I'm upbeat I don't get bored, I can easily find things to fill my time. Even at work, its just not a problem to occupy myself. But when I'm down its hard to fill the gap. TV seems to work though most times, takes you off somewhere else. There is no effort involved and eventually I get sucked in, unless I really can't find anything to watch. Then its the pits.

I'm an introvert's introvert. I'm such an introvert I can't even bring myself to war the black T-shirt one of my daughters got me that says in small letter 'I am an introvert.'

I guess my situation was different than most people's. I was so isolated as a child that I had to learn to be my own best friend because there was never anybody else. I also have a quirky mind because my mother did not tolerate loud or active games - they gave her a headache.
So almost everything is in my head.

There are always worlds I've created in my mind to go exploring to see if I can find something new or just enjoy what's there. I built a spaceship when I was 11 and 12 and I can always go there.

I love music though I never had a chance to take lessons as a child so I can not play music except in my head. That's good enough for not being bored though not for most other things. Most of the time the music is there s there even when I don't really hear it so I just have to tap in..

I play word games with the headlines in the trashy, pardon me, gossip filled magazines in the line at the grocery store.

I think of questions I would like to have answered though they are usually ones that probably don't have an answer.

Work is tough but there's the music and a screen saver I can lose myself in.

A lot of times I just watch people. The human race is still such a mystery to me most of the time I feel I don't belong. So I've learned to be an observer. In stores I try to figure out where people came from and what they're going to be doing by what the buy. I make up stories about them. I make up stories about my co-workers I would NEVER actually write down. I fire my boss (in my head) after saying all the things I can't say. Every so often I'm left with counting ceiling tiles or light fixtures, but not frequently.

Maybe it's really weird but I think of what I'd want to say to the president if we ever met, or even the governor. If I had three wishes what would they be? If I could say anything to anybody without any consequences, what would it be and who would it be. Why does the line I'm in at the store always move the slowest. If we converted the Greek/Roman gods into today's world - what would they represent. What character in a book I've read would a want to be? What would my perfect house look like? Where would it be?

A lot of times it's just 'Why am I here,' because no matter how much I think about that, I never come up with a real answer.

So I've probably strayed away from the topic and now everyone knows how strange I am and I want to delete the whole thing because I'm not like other people, normal people, and I've gotten hurt so many times just being myself.

Hi Jerissa,
Interesting selection of ideas to choose from when you're bored. I believe the reason we are here is to experience things, learn lessons, teach others and to grow into better people all the time.

I have come to realise that there are no real right or wrong decisions just choices that lead to different experiences.

Also thought your practice of watching people is brilliant because I think a lot of quiet people do that and they become quite skilled at understand people without the need for words so we become able to read people despite what their words may be telling us.

It is wonderful to be different. I am glad you posted your message. I hope you post more because I think you'll find we are all different. I have been different all my life and revelled in it. I find people who are different are far more interesting than those who turn themselves inside out to be like everyone else.

As an example I really love going to a place and discovering quaint shops that are a bit different, they hold wonderful treasures to find whereas anyone can go to the mall and find the same old stores in every town and it's all just the same old, same old .... now that is boring.

A lot of the things you've said are things a lot of us have done also. I think being quiet and sensitive types we prefer to live our lives this way. I spent a very noisy day the day after Christmas Day with some noisy people and it took me almost all night to fall asleep afterwards.

You aren't strange at all, in fact you're one of us and fit in perfectly.

Hugs

Pamela - sorry being so late saying thank you. Even online and anonymous I still feel strange being open. I appreciate your comment.

Owly - I guess I've never had a chance to be around many people who are like me. Then again, I'm still not around many people I would trust with anything personal because I made a couple of big mistakes when I was younger, trusting people because I was desperate to fit in somewhere. That's one of the biggest reasons I'm here online.

I also didn't get a very good start in life and I always feel strange because of that.

I guess it is sensible, when I think about it, that quiet, sensitive introverts have a harder time connecting with other, quiet, sensitive introverts. Also a very good reason to be online.

Thanks again.
