VITAMINS

Are taking OTC (over the counter) vitamins/supplements a good thing? bad thing? just a big hoax, not really needed?
Do you/family take vitamins? If so, what do you take? How does one determine what they need? Multi-vitamin vs. individual specific vitamins/supplements? Do they really work? How do you know they are working or not working?

C'mon....don't make me get up, and get my bottle(s) of medicine!

Hi, I can't resist sharing my experience & knowledge of this topic. There are many vitamins/supplements available today. However, they are not all the same. Most of them are made from man made, synthetic ingredients, not real food. Don't be fooled by their claim of "Natural". Read the entire label to see how much real food is included. When you take one of these vitamins , can you actually notice changes such as energy, sleep, skin, etc? Most are not reaching the cells of the body where they are needed & are definitely not being absorbed by your body. What I have myself taken & represented for several years is enzyme based, natural whole foods supplements. Everything is backed by scientific research. I can show you how to read labels for yoursef. With our supplements, you can see a difference in your health or the company will refund your money. Oh, I at my age, feel better, look better & have more energy than any time in my adult life. We must stop putting these foreign, toxic substances in our bodies. I can't stress this enough.

I am assuming from your post, you sell enzyme based, national whole foods supplements. If this is true, have you done as much research on the other vitamins and supplements, to be able to have a fair comparison, or is it the companies propaganda that you have bought into (mind over matter)? I ask this because sometimes companies are so good at their sales pitch, you actually believe something true that isn't because of the good sell job.

I am not saying anything for or against any of them, just an observation in sell technique and beliefs.

I feel talking to your dr. is important before making decisions on what to take, as many things OTC interfer with prescription meds.

Fish Oil! Everyone should be taking fish oil. Why? Because it helps lower cholesterol which almost everyone has too much of. But this, as is any other supplement, should be purchased at a health food store. We must remember that the FDA does not regulate over-the-counter vitamins or food supplements. Therefore, there is no guarantee that you are getting what the label says you are, where health food stores guarantee their products. You pay a higher price but at least you are getting what you are paying for.

Don't know if you guys are aware of this, okay...it's the nurse in me! lol

If you take vitamins/supplements they are better if taken at night, your metabolism slows down when you sleep, therefore more is absorbed.

Just some food for thought.

I take several and have for some time. I always take the ones that have a USP label for purity and make sure the company backs all their products and has strict manufacturing requirements. I won't take any that are not made in the USA. If they are not manufactured here, I would beware.

I take too many vitamins and supplements to list here, and I can't complain about very much regarding my health and fitness at the age of 71!

A doctor that I recently dated had about 3 times as many vitamins and supplements as I take sitting on his kitchen counter that he takes every day, so I feel comfortable taking the number that I do!

I WILL say, though, that calcium is one vitamin I take by itself about 2 hours before or after I take any other vitamins, supplements, or prescription drugs, since it can interfere with the absorption of so many of them.
