Meet-up

My question is: Have you ever met any of the folks you know online? I have recently had opportunities to meet a few and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting them. I met pinkcaddy7 from this group; her daughter's husband is stationed at the Air Force base here and I had smoothies with her and her daughter when she was in town. I enjoyed the meeting and hope we can do it again when she is in town next time.

I met someone from a fibromyalgia/crochet group; her son in law lives here with her grandson. We met for lunch when she came to visit him. A fun lunch, we laughed a lot.

Wednesday, I picked up a member of one of my groups, drove to Atlanta, and had a meeting with 10 members of the group. One of the members had recently lost her mother; the members sent me squares and I made comfort afghans for her and her Dad. In my haste to finish them, I forgot to take pictures, but if I can figure out how to download them, I will try to get some of the ones taken at the gathering into the photos for this group. The leader of this group brought her hubby who also crochets.

So, the question is, have you met any online friends? Good experience? Nervous about it? Precautions?

I have added pictures in our photo section of the 2 afghans I made for the member of the yahoo group who lost her mother at the end of September. Members of the group sent the squares to me and I struggled to arrange them into the afghans you see. I had done that one at a time before, but this was the first time I was trying to decide which squares to put into which afghan. (There were no stipulations on size, color, etc.) We met on Wednesday to present them to her. The first one is for her father, the other is for her. She was really surprised.

Not that I know of, I haven't meet up with anyone on here. However, I looked at your finished afghans, and you did a beautiful job in putting their squares together. Way to go, good job done!!!

Thank you, it was a challenge. When the squares started coming in - all sizes, all tensions, all colors, I began to panic. I must have laid them out at least 100 different times, all ways, moving them back and forth from one to the other, etc. Finally, I said to myself, JUST DO IT!

If I still lived in Stockbridge, Ga I would meet up with bean60 because I would be just 50 miles from her. I don't think there are too many here in Oregon in our group. I did become an eon friend with someone who I had met and shopped in her yarn shop when she had it in my moms home town. My brother has also shopped in her shop. He is into knitting. He makes up his own patterns.

I haven't been on line lately as my mother had cancer surgery this month. My sister and I have been taking care of her here at our place and are getting ready to take her back home to her place this week. She has chosen to not have any kind of treatment. She will be 91 in January. And then two weeks ago my husband had to have his battery replace for his defib for his heart.

I'm not sure about our Crochet group, but there are a number of Oregon folks in eons; The Back Porch group has Oregon folks who have had several meet-ups. I've seen their pictures and the seem to have lots of fun.

I know your mother made a difficult decision not to have treatment after her cancer surgery. Is she able to live alone still? You really did have your hands full dealing with your mother and your husband. Kudos to you!

My mother didn't have cancer, but she wasn't able to live alone and was with the hubby and me for several months before she died. I was still working most of that time, but the hubby did a great job with her.

What do you like to crochet; do you find it as relaxing as most folks? I can get lost in pattern books, finding just the right pattern for the yarn I have or just the right yarn for a pattern. I have a friend who gets lost and spends hours in cookbooks, so I guess to each her own!

Yes, she still lives by herself. Before her surgery she was taking other people shopping, to doctor appointment, visiting and to church. She did her our cooking, yard work, and shopping. She is a knitter and crocheter also. In fact she is the one to taught me how to crochet.

My brother, her and myself all learn how to knit at the same time 49 years ago.

I like doing afghans. I knit dishcloths. I also do matching potholders that are crocheted. I do some cross stitch and plastic canvas. Since my husband had his heart attach almost 15 years ago I don't do as much as I use to do. I do more crocheting than anything beside reading.

Crochet and reading, guess they go together; I do them both a lot, too. When I can't find anything I want to read, I grab a crochet pattern book; I have a friend who grabs a recipe book. Can't see that, you can't wear a recipe!! But, everyone needs something they enjoy doing that is relaxing and that they can share; she cooks for her family, I share my crocheted things.
