Warm Welcome and Question

If you're new (Joined in last two weeks lets say) to Intellectual Wannabes, what brought you here?

What are your expectations?

Are you new to eons and/or social networking in general?

If so what got you started? (Brought you 'online' and to eons?)

I came across Eons while wandering pointlessly around the Web and joined it one month ago as of tomorrow. Prior to that I had blown off the whole network/chat scene for a couple of years because of the wierd personal flaming and feuding that goes on as well as general chaos and inanity, what they call a signal-to-noise issue. Eons in general is better managed and organized than most, and the age restrictions provide at least a possibility of finding people with perspective, experience, and a capacity for independent thought. I had lurked through IW a few times and thought it looked pretty interesting (neat name, too) and I was gently nudged into it by Sylk not too long ago. It's working pretty well; I like ideas and people who have them and this is a good place for that.
Thanks again, Sylk.

I have been on Eons for one year. I found this group through a friend. I find this group great and I like it for the wonderful discussions. Some of the groups on Eons, mainly the more political groups can be very mean. This group is not and I am thankful for that.

I liked the unpretentious Wannabes name. I belonged to a couple of other groups that fancied themselves to be of superior intellect but found them to be a bit too snobbish for my liking (and not really superior at all).

I've been on Eons for a little over two years. I had had internet for around 13 years at the time, but never really got into the social networking thing. One Sunday Eons was featured in the Parade magazine that comes with the paper. I looked Eons over and said ok, this might do. I've been addicted since.
I have also, like JB, been on a couple of other intelligent groups. Not exactly the same reason for leaving them, but I did. Moondancer invited me to IW and although I don't post much(I read and nod my head) I enjoy it very much.

Oh, you could get a video clip of you nodding. Then you could just post it when you had nothing to add, and we'd know you'd read the post.

Hi! OK...Lemme see if I can give y'all sensible answers BEFORE I've had my morning pain meds!

Q: What brought me here?
A: I'm suppose'n that ya mean Intellectual Wannabes rather than Eons.com, correct? Actually I was invited here, a place I'd never heard of before, by MoonDancerInRed, a person I'd never heard of before, but who is a new friend now!

Q: What are your expectations?
A: My expectations? Well I would suppose so, you didn't ask me for MoonDancer's or GhostWalker's expectations after all! Lemme see... I suppose that I'm expecting to have a place where one can have a truly intellectual conversation without having to deal with all the self important, snobbish, boorish, and endlessly BORING people who drone on and on in the technicalese of the given subject rather than courteously and non-contentiously making their point and passing the floor (or maybe the walls or ceiling lol!) to the next person without forcing them to have to do research on the subject just to know what the snob said and if it was gibberish or not... PHEW!... like another heretofore unnamed forum! Sorry about the run on sentence but I just couldn't get my point across any other way.

Q: Are you new to eons and/or social networking in general?
A #1: OH MY! No no no no no! I've been around community boards for AGES! I remember the net when you cruised it one dial-up at a time then logging onto what we called bulletin boards! And and a FAST modem was 1024 BAUD and had a cradle for the telephone receiver! ROTFLMAO! Email was a dream we were still working on then and the only computer virus I ever got was a joke between my little brother and I because we both caught the same cold while talking on the same BBS! But more recently, I was talking (via email with my oldest and dearest friend Carmen who lives in Brazil about how she and I first met on the old "TheGlobe.Com" website (some 14+ years ago) then started our OWN social networking site (PlanetOutCast.Net) when we didn't like the way things were going on the other community sites of the time! So no, I'm most definitely NOT new to all of this!

A #2: And, so far as Eons.com goes, I've been here for... um... er... hummm! Let's see... [divide 6 by 42, add 5, subtract the net worth of Afghanistan... add the remains of last Christmas's fruitcake, subtract from that the age of your best friend's cousin George and that leaves... BUBBLEGUM! No, no, no... oh wait... forgot to carry the 5 over to the other side of the room! Hmmmm... um.... errr... that leaves 2.7634 years plus or minus the number of toes on my cat's hind left foot]... Almost 3 years... yes, I've been here almost 3 years between my old moniker (JulieDee) and my current one!

Q: If so what got you started? (Brought you 'online' and to eons?)
A: Going onto the world wide web (our former Vice Prez Gore aside) seemed to be the logical next step of what I was already doing of course. And Eons? I saw an ad on TV about this site JUST for old fuddy-duddy's and Rock 'n Roll Classics like me.

OH! I consider myself to be the Master Court Jester of Eons... until someone better than I comes along and forces me to tip my belled crown to them!

I'm fairly new, but not sure if I fit the 2 week category. At any rate, I'm here because someone mentioned it to me, and I was curious about what a group called "Intellectual Wannabes" would talk about. Expectations? Not many other than making friends and participating in some interesting conversations on occasion. I read a lot, but only post when I'm taking a break from my work. I've been on Eons for a couple of years, but haven't participated until this last year.

RWG, nobody paid much attention or thought the welcome and questions were directed at two different groups (welcome to newbies, the question to all) and that's ok, interesting to hear everyone's reasons.
