Will you give the government a list of your guns?

H.R. 45: "Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009" which is in the works now would require you have a license to own a firearm. It will make ownership of a firearm illegal if you don't have a license. Read on...

"Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 - Amends the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act to prohibit a person from possessing a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm license under this Act or a state system certified under this Act and such license has not been invalidated or revoked. Prescribes license application, issuance, and renewal requirements.
Prohibits transferring or receiving a qualifying firearm unless the recipient presents a valid firearms license, the license is verified, and the dealer records a tracking authorization number. Prescribes firearms transfer reporting and record keeping requirements. Directs the Attorney General to establish and maintain a federal record of sale system.
Prohibits: (1) transferring a firearm to any person other than a licensee, unless the transfer is processed through a licensed dealer in accordance with national instant criminal background check system requirements, with exceptions; (2) a licensed manufacturer or dealer from failing to comply with reporting and record keeping requirements of this Act; (3) failing to report the loss or theft of the firearm to the Attorney General within 72 hours; (4) failing to report to the Attorney General an address change within 60 days; or (5) keeping a loaded firearm, or an unloaded firearm and ammunition for the firearm, knowingly or recklessly disregarding the risk that a child is capable of gaining access, if a child uses the firearm and causes death or serious bodily injury.
Prescribes criminal penalties for violations of firearms provisions covered by this Act.
Directs the Attorney General to: (1) establish and maintain a firearm injury information clearinghouse; (2) conduct continuing studies and investigations of firearm-related deaths and injuries; and (3) collect and maintain current production and sales figures of each licensed manufacturer.
Authorizes the Attorney General to certify state firearm licensing or record of sale systems."

The bill stinks. I had heard about it earlier in the year, but really didn't think it would get any exposure. Forget trying to make more rules if you can't enforce the ones we've got.

I just saw a film clip about the Ft. Hood shooter and how he got his guns. "It is alleged...." and a whole lot of conjecture, instances where they say the various watchdog groups dropped the ball. Maybe they did.

But I have seen Arlington Road.

Let me be clearer. I felt that the film clip concerning obtaining the gun was a propaganda piece to make this gun bill more attractive to some people. view link

If this bill passes, I will probably be breaking the law. The idea of every gun owner in the nation having to send a change of address card to the Attorney General of the United States within 60 days is just begging for a reason to put us all in jail. ~~ Section 304.

"Will you give the government a list of your guns?" Hell no.

Interesting video. Obviously they weren't watching this guy closely enough. The idea that sharing info between agencies would have helped is ridiculous. Legal gun purchasing isn't an issue here, having a muslim radical in our midst IS the issue. (Duh!)

They weren't watching the guy close enough, or someone is fabricating evidence to fit the "facts" as presented so far. I wonder how much the gun makers stocks will go up in the next few days. Another campaign to scare the non gun owners pushes the gun owners to buy more guns before they are illegal.

Yes, I did love debate class; trying to find the argument for the other side of the question.

Will I give the government a list...... If they don't have it already they aren't getting it from me.

In the original link, there is a place where you can read the letter that was collectively written and sent to the House earlier this year. Lots of good history is listed there. History we don't want to be repeated in this country.

We went through this some time back on another thread, somewhere. " Oh, you mean those guns I used to have? I sold them some time back, at a yard sale. Say, you guys want a beer before you go?

My answer would be:

Guns? What Guns? Why don't you stop the thugs on the street and take their guns - when you have collected all of those come back and ask me again.

No speka the Inglus.

The bill makes it a punishable crime to not report who it was sold to. Sec 202 indicates you have to
give "(6) the name and address of the individual who transferred the firearm to the transferee."

also get ya with these angles...

SEC. 302. FAILURE TO MAINTAIN OR PERMIT INSPECTION OF RECORDS.
SEC. 303. FAILURE TO REPORT LOSS OR THEFT OF FIREARM

penalties are 2 to 10 years of prison. But you know they'll stack stuff on top of that!

Short list.

But, ya know - i am required to register my vehicles which are considered weapons. What else should we exempt from killing devices?

But I sold them at a yard sale in 2008.
