Yup. Many years ago when I was first seeing my R.H., I called him by my dead husband's name. That was spooky.
I have done it too. I called my husband by my ex-husbands name. Fortunately I have a son named the same.
If I've done it, I didn't realize it and he was too classy to say anything....
Yes, I did it once. I was embarrassed but he was okay about it. Like you, it had been years since my divorce, so it was odd! It spooked me for a couple of days, but I just let it go. The brain does weird things sometimes!
WOW--this can be very embarassing. Guys ANd Girls make this "oops". While dating, I have almost made the slip--one guy's name on the tip of my tongue --as I was talking to another guy.
I think it is excusable, unless you go two or three names before getting the right one.
I remember doing it several years ago...and I have been called the ex's ex before. it is embarrassing yet its common and hopefully things settle with a new couple and it doesn't happen again.
Wouldn't it suck to be called your SO's name during a romantic moment???? and how awful it would be if you called your SO your Ex's name during one of THOSE moments???? Ye Gads!

Actually we had been looking at some pictures. He was in one (I threw away all the photos and just missed some) and I guess he stuck in my mind. Farrell was very sweet though and said, "I am here and very lucky to be with you, you can call me whatever you want". Of course, he doesn't mean call him Skip. Haha!
We've both slipped and called each other by the ex's name. Usually when the ex is on either of our minds at the moment for one reason or another. Not often, thank goodness, and never in one of THOSE moments! lol, starry!
I do it all the time to everyone, everyone.
No even embarrassed anymore, just laugh and say sorry.
I get ragged on often for this.
