"Un Poco de Mexico" is Finished!
Translation: "A Little Bit of Mexico"
It seems like I've been working on this quilt FOREVER! I started planning over 3 years ago, researching Mexican culture because my niece spent a quarter in Mexico as part of her degree and fell in love with their culture. I wanted to make her a quilt but quilting is not a Mexican tradition so I had to adapt whatever I found. I looked at rugs, garments, crafts and architecture online and in books. I think I borrowed every book on Mexico in the public library system. I know I looked at thousands of images online.
It was all very interesting but so much of it wouldn't translate into blocks small enough to fit into a reasonably sized quilt; not without putting 50 or more pieces into a block. I do miniatures but I wanted to finish this in my lifetime.
This is how the finished quilt turned out, all my own original designs.

I also made a card to include with the quilt that shows the original textiles/artifacts I adapted for my designs and which ethnic group they came from. If you're interested you can view the inside at:
