Mean-spirited or just plain hateful?

Have you noticed a rise in the number of mean-spirited people that cross your path every day? Just can't say anything nice and when they do say something hurtful theytruly feel that everyone should stop and have a laugh with them over their hateful words. Sometimes I'm just appalled. Wanna shout in their ears.."YOU ARE NOT FUNNY, YOU ARE HATEFUL!!!

On this site, most definitely! This is precisely the reason why I limit my interaction in groups to a few where I can express myself freely and not be eaten alive in the process. From what I've observed there are no religious or political extremists here, and that's one of the reasons why there's strong participation.

In the real world, I make an effort to surround myself with positive thinking people and those whom have some type of purpose in life other than spewing depressing thoughts and venom out of their mouths!

Well you know sis, someone can put his hand up a Dummy's butt and make him talk, but guess what??? He's still a dummy. So rather than entertain the hatefulness, I simply move on out of its way.

I almost feel sorry for those sad, hateful people. You have to wonder what kind of demons they battle in themselves everyday. At work, I generally greet those people with my biggest smile and most pleasant "Good Morning". Here at eons, I simply ignore them.

I make an effort to be friendly and kind to everyone I meet, and I'd say, in general, it's returned in kind. Maybe it's being Canadian;>} I avoid people who are negative and unkind. I don't gossip, and I won't tolerate gossipers. Gossip is rarely kind and sympathetic.

When I was growing up sarcasm was heavily used in our household, and I think it is mean and hurtful. I didn't allow it in the house as I was raising my children because I remembered how much it hurt me as a child.

I don't want to sound perfect here, I have my faults, and they aren't few.

can't really say that I have noticed anything like that . I have recently moved to Ponchatoula,Louisiana and find it delightful. people are warm and welcoming. have seen some dust ups in some eons groups but it's pretty easy to just move on most of the time.

Joyful, that's the right approach. There are some housebound people who just hate the world. Then they get on their computers to spew out their venom and bile. Don't ya just want to tie em down and force happy pills down their throats?

Misery loves to share it. We don't have to take it, let some grouch rain on our parade.

Cheers!

"they get on their computers to spew out their venom and bile" seems to be the content of most of the comments I read on AOL news articles. The downside of the Internet ... it makes it much too easy to sit anonymously behind a computer monitor and fling crap! Ignoring them works for me.

How about ignorant or misguided? i know sometimes when people say hurtful things online it sounds worse than intended because tone or voice and body language are absent. But also we humans have a tendency to be view our own shortcomings in a positive light and the same trait in others in a negative way. i call it the 'I'm persistant, you are stubborn' syndrome.

i'll usually confront people once if i think they're being offensive (whether to me or someone else). If they won't acknowledge it...i pretty much start to ignore them. Frustrated the heck out of one guy that way, he tried to bait me for a while, finally he just didn't show up in that group as often (no fun if nobody will come down to his level!)

I think all of you have expressed the same idea STAY POSITIVE. It is not possible to explain to a negative person how to be positive if we do not show them how.
