Finances can be such an obstacle when it comes to a divorce. Men generally think in terms of what they have and will lose and women think more about what they don't have but will need to get ie: a job. A lot of financial issues could be resolved quite easily were it not for anger, frustration, disappointment and a host of other emotions felt by the divorcing couple. A clear head is what is needed but that is seldom what people bring to the table when divorcing.
Doing a "collaborative" divorce was helpful in this instance. All parties are very cognizant of what they have at the time and will have after the divorce. In some ways it made me feel protected.
