No I haven't seen him speak, but then I haven't read the book even though it's been on the best seller list. Do you recommend it?
Yes, I heard him speak in San Diego last year. He was fabulous and oh so humble. What an amazing guy. He has a new book coming out in the next couple of weeks on his continuing work in Afghanistan. Every time I hear the news of that area, I think of Greg.
have it at home and just haven't gotten to it... guess i should

My book club read it, i loved the book. The news will have more meaning after you understand the country a little more. It's one book that i have kept and have reread, because the during the first reading
I felt that i miss some of the more important parts of their culture, i feel that i understand afghanistan more now. What women and girls go thru on a daily basis is so unreal in America.
I just suggested this as a group read. I have it and hope to get to after the first of the year. I've heard it's wonderful. This makes me want to move it to the top of stack!
My granddaughter just gave me this book last week. She had to read it in High School for a class.
She thought it was boooorrrring! lol
Guess it just couldn't compete with the vampire books she loves...
Guess I'll give it a try... vampires don't interest me. :-)

carci, I have a feeling I'd probably be sitting on your granddaughter's side of the table. :x
One of the teachers at our HS was very involved in this, with his students and it went communitywide, but I have not had a burning desire to read the book myself.
Greg Mortenson's new book on Afghanistan and the school building projects is coming out in two weeks. I found the first one fascinating and I am looking forward to the second.
CNN had a segment on Greg Mortenson a few weeks ago. What he is doing is amazing. I have not read the book, but given the comments here it's definitely a book I might read.
If your library, or any other source, provides copies of the Book Page newsletter, the December issue has a nice interview with Greg Mortenson. I think I would enjoy sitting down with him for a cup of tea, but really should read his books first. The new one is called Stones and Schools.
