A Sunday Ride

Well, I can't remember a worse September/October in all my riding years. Most of my riding has been indoors. :( But this past Sunday I took a 32 mile ride on the most beautiful fall day I can remember in years. (Maybe it's just because I've been suffering from bicycle cabin fever.) All the leaves are mostly gone but that's OK; it might as well have been a green spring day. I rejoiced in the fresh air and the occasional leaf burning that was going on along parts of my country ride. My daughter was supposed to ride with me but she woke up not feeling well. I felt this would ruin my ride and although I really missed having her on the ride, I made the most of it. I had a lot of "meditaion time" and really enjoyed the day. I log all my rides but this one is a ride I won't have to look up to remember.

Sounds like a wonderful ride Cacci....too bad about your daughter, I hope it's nothing serious. When one gets used to riding with another person, then riding alone just isn't the same. It sounds like you had a good time after all. The smells of the fresh air, freshly plowed earth, leaves burning, and all the other "country smells" is what you have on a bicycle vs a car. It's just a wonderful way to travel about, and it makes each ride a memory maker.

Knowing you have someone relying on you to ride is motivating, but sometimes there is just flat no one to play with. Me? Oh, I whine, try to think of reasons not to go, whine some more, finally draggin' my behind out the door, and then I get on my bike and the first rotation of the pedal think "what a wonderful day". Glad you got out for some 'you' time. Hope your girl is feeling better.

Thanks, yes, my daughter is up and at 'em again. "Country smells" sure do motivate me to get out there and ride. The sense of smell can rival the eyeballs in intensity--good or bad! There was that black, white and red skunk "sleeping" in the middle of the road several weeks ago! :(

About the whining. My daughter always says, "Why don't you have a little cheese with your whine!" I try not to whine in front of her!

Seems like you had a quality ride Cacci! It is great to ride with others or another that you trust but sometimes it takes a ride alone on a beautiful day to remind you why you like riding a bicycle so much. Some folks tell me how free they feel driving their cars down country roads. I just tell them, "You ought to try riding your bike down those road if you want to experience freedom...."
