Group Survey

Many of you have expressed to me that you would like this group to be more simple and easy to understand.

I have a short survey that will give lollykoko and I the information we need to bring you the topics you want to talk about.

Please take one or two minutes to answer the questions and we will get this party started.

1. Are you currently off the grid?

2. Do you have plans to purchase off the grid systems in the next year?

3. Would information on self sufficient living in other areas besides electricity interest you?

4. If so specify the type of interests you have (homesteading, non gasoline transportation or DIY projects)

5. Would you be interested in "less of the grid" ideas? Not off of the grid but things that reduce dependence.

6. Do off the grid news and new products interest you?

7. List any special things you have heard about or just topics that interest you (pellet stoves, battery powered mowers or biofuel).

Thanks for the help.

1. No, I am fully on the grid today.
2. If you mean solar panels, wind, or the like to power my home, the answer is no.
3. Yes,
4. Especially in non gasoline transportation. I am planning on purchasing a car within a year or so. I am looking at hybrids but I am not sure the auto makers have all the kinks worked out. All electric cars-I am not sure about either. There needs to be more places, like gas stations, where you can plug and go. Recharging a battery would have to be faster than it is now.

5. Yes. Items such as solar lighting for home and the RV. Solar seems to be the easies for me to understand. More ideas other than lighting would be great.
6. Yes it interest me, but most of the information is so technical I don't understand it.

7. One area I feel is being neglected is the RVs/Class C/ and the like. Boomer are buying these types of vehicles even in the down economy. Some live in them permanetly, some, like me, are part timers. Hubby and I have a 5th Wheel with a 30 amp maximum. I am always aware of how much electricity I am using at any given time. Help in conserving electricity would be helpful. We are already going with solar lighting. Any other ideas would be helpfull.

I am not off the grid, nor is it likely I will be any time soon. I am interested in knowing about the off-the-grid lifestyle and what it entails. I am also very interested in any practical ways to save fuel and/or reduce independence. I work fulltime and have a limited amount of time and skills to put toward such endeavors, but I still want to learn.

And thank you for all your efforts on our behalf! I have learned a lot.

I don't think I ever answered this, Layla. Maybe by doing so and bumping it up someone else will think to share their situation.

1. Are you currently off the grid? Only during the warm weather

2. Do you have plans to purchase off the grid systems in the next year? Purchase or build

3. Would information on self sufficient living in other areas besides electricity interest you? yes, definitely

4. If so specify the type of interests you have (homesteading, non gasoline transportation or DIY projects) I'm interested in DIY wind power and possibly hydropower. Planning information for gardening and setting up an orchard would be helpful. More about root cellars, spring houses and smoke houses would be appreciated.

5. Would you be interested in "less of the grid" ideas? Not off of the grid but things that reduce dependence. Every little bit helps

6. Do off the grid news and new products interest you? Some of them are very interesting.

7. List any special things you have heard about or just topics that interest you (pellet stoves, battery powered mowers or biofuel). I'm greedy. I want it all.
