I will bite my tongue.....and my fingers since I have a hound in this fight.
Two, I absolutely think you should have a say in this. I will respect your choice to speak or not but it is open, honest dialog that will take us to where we need to be on this subject and dozens of others.
Since I base my beliefs on my religious beliefs, guess I can't discuss this either.
Years ago when I first heard of this fight, I had no opinion because I had no "hound in the fight". I knew a gay couple who had been together for decades, one was a former student whose nephews and nieces call his partner Aunt Dave.
Then I heard righteous people saying marriage was supposed to be between man and woman to create a family. Well, gay people do that. Marriage is supposed to be a sign of love. Well gay people love each other. Etc.
Then Britney Spears got married for 55 hours, and that was the deciding moment for me to get behind this movement. If anybody denegrated the idea of marriage, she did, but there was no outcry from the peole against gay marriage. One can say I flouted the sanctity of marriage as well because I got divorced.
I try to think of why people would be against this concept of gay marriage, and can't come up with a reason ( As I can about abortion and people bitching because abortion will not be covered under the new healthcare bill. What! !?? I have to worry about covering someone's abortion???? Spit on that! It's her body as they say--let her worry about it) However, I also believe that people are born gay and the pull is as strong to the same sex as it is for the opposite sex for me.
My beliefs are based on the Bible....guess you don't want to hear that side....so I'll stay out of it.
I don't think your, or anyone's, religious beliefs should have a part in the laws that govern our country. While I support your right to choose your religion and your lifestyle, I don't want your religious beliefs to be a part of my life. Do you have any thoughts on same-sex marriage that are not religion-based?
"Do you have any thoughts on same-sex marriage that are not religion-based? "--merlin
I don't understand how this is pertinent now, when it is spouted prolifically in the abortion issue. How can it be relevant in one and not the other?

In my opinion it isn't relative in either, Rob. The constitution guarantees us the right to separation of church and state. Your religious beliefs should not be a consideration in the laws of this nation.
Sorry, that should read relevant and not relative. My fingers are working faster than my internal spell-check tonight.
I think we all have a dog in this fight.
And since the REAL reasons most religions and cultures have always had SOME functioning bias against homosexuality is scrupulously avoided at all costs twixt both left and right - I too am unwilling to shine such rude light on such a discussion as this.
