I've had fairly good luck hanging medium size wall ceramics with loops and wire except for one time when a loop wasn't attached well enough and broke after firing while I was hanging it. Any suggestions on how to replace one ceramic loop?
I do some wall art, tiles and other wall scuptures and i usually try to leave a large over hang in the back or holes or lugs where wire can be attached.
For large platters I throw a channel in the foot and punch some holes in the foot for wire.
For odd shapes, sconces, tiles I attach clay blocks with holes in them or just ridges that wood blocks can be attached below.
I've seen some very heavy pieces hang with epoxied wooden blocks on the back. How long I don't know but they were upwards of 15 lbs.

And then there's the wonderful, magical one-drop-sticks-all bonders (Loctite, Suprabond in Argentina, don't know the commerical names in the USA). You can stick a wire loop to the back of the tile, or (if you don't mind having to break the wall to remove the tile some years hence) stick the tile to the wall. I stuck a thin S-shaped bronze pipe to a bronze wall plate at one end and a spherical bronze lamp holder at the other with Loctite 27 years ago. This fixture illuminated the entrance hall in the final years of my marriage in Salta, the entrance hall of my very temporary home in post divorce Buenos Aires, the entrance hall of my home in the Santiago, Chile outskirts in 1991-98, and since then, the covered terrace facing the goosepond in my present Salta home. AND IT'S NEVER SHOWED THE LEAST SIGN OF WEAKNESS IN ALL THESE YEARS OF USE, TRANSPORTATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE!
Interesting post regarding wall hangings.I do several of these a year.I make my hangers with clay and attach them before the wall hanging is totally dry.I make them with the little extruder that comes with all the extra dyes that come with it.I use the one that makes small round coils.Very uniform and I find that this works very well. They of course can break but so far I haven't had any complaints.Loctite is a very good glue and I also use Aleens from Duncan for a very clear glue.It is very strong.I use glue with some of my jewelry pieces.Nothing worse than a beautiful necklace "letting go"in front of a group of folks you are speaking to!
