It depends on how much stuff you have, and how much you want to argue over it, and where you live. We came to an agreement on all points of chattel and finances, and the legal business took about two months. No one even had to go to court. This was in mid-Missouri.
I an just starting my second year and I believe the attorneys are dragging it out for maximum dollars. I even told my lawyer I thought that is what he was doing. What a joke he said he was offended. A Divorce Lawyer offended talk about an oxymoron!

We decided on January 11th this year and will be final on December 2nd. California has a 6-month, 1 day waiting period after the divorce is filed. We used one of those "collaborative" programs. Worked well, but is expensive.
I had an attorney, who is bias, so my ex was able to get anything and everything he wanted, the judge was no better, after the divorce, I let my attorney go and I appealed the reversal of the divorce decree myself, doing a reversal through the appallet courts is very hard, this went on for about 3 years, I was finally able to keep what is mine and the ex was to give me money and my vehicle back, he ruined my vehicle, has no money, but that is ok as long as I was able to keep what was mine that has been in my familys for years, I live where he cannot find me or my phone #, the man I was married to is very abusive, a stalker and ect, I won my case that normally does not happen through appallet courts, what the district courts decide is the way it stays, I was able to show pictures, recipts and ect to the appallet courts on who owns what, which helped me out. It does depend on the attorney you have, the state you live in, any more now days, the system does not care. So make sure you take notes and your attorney gives you letters and ect so you can look things over. I should have done my own divorce from the start, a lesson learned where I use to live.
