Talking About Male Input...

It's my turn to cook for my beau and I's "dinner and a movie" night. What do I cook? I don't do steak/beef or chops/pork type stuff. Am I kinda up a creek here?

Interesting question, but I can only answer for myself, as to what I'd serve up to Herself.

I'd probably do salmon with a light teriyaki glaze. Brussel sprouts, lightly salted. Wild rice. Broiled tomato halves with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. Dessert: a pecan cobbler (I've had it once and want to try my hand at cooking one). I serve water with meals, but can do coffee with dessert. Were I to serve wine, it'd be served as a postprandial libation.

I nice pasta dish, with a salad and some bread. I nice semi dry red wine, nothing fancy.

Or Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup and a small salad.

If you have some time do a low country broil.

thats just me

You cook the only thing I can cook: Spaghetti Skeeter.

1. Boil your spaghetti while frying up your favorite sausage.

2. Drain the spaghetti and put it into a big bowl.

3. Crack one or two eggs into the spaghetti and mix until fully blended.

4. Add cooked sausage.

5. Place on table with sliced cucumber, salt and pepper, and plenty of cold wine or beer, your choice.

No beef, no chops... that leaves chicken or fish... chicken would win out at our house!

Tonight here: Homemade vegetable soup and cheese burgers. Cheese cake for dessert!

I vote for pasta, too. especially if you are doing a movie. you need something quick. I'm the queen of pasta. My husband loved it.

Do you know how to do shrmip stir-fry! Just cut up your favorite veggies, stir-fry in sesame seed oil, add some soy sauce and teriyaki flavoring, put large shrimp in last. Serve it over rice or tiny pasta called orzo.

Actually, it's an Italian thing. Delicious too, right Jimmy?
Anyway,D.D. you didn't tell us what kind of guy your guest was . If he's used to gourmet dishes, You could go with the salmon or shrimp. They're easy to get creative with. If he's the kind to enjoy simpler, down home cooking, then either the pasta or a pot of homemade soup and either biscuits or homemade bread (from the bakery???) would be a good bet. Now, if he's a bit of a southern country boy, you might try a batch of good texas-style chili and cornbread. It all sounds good to me... When's dinner, and am I invited??? LOL!

Thanks, all! I'm leaning towards chicken and mixed veggies or, indeed combine it all in a homemade soup/stew or chicken pot pie with cheddar cheese/jalapeno corn on the side. datsun... hit the button, he's a down home meat and potatoes kinda guy; doesn't do gourmet nor oriental (stir fry) and I can't do wheat products so pasta is out.

The biggest consideration is he can COOK! and HE'S the chili expert. He's been feeding me the past two months. So, I'll "keep it simple stupid" and just not try to compete. I just want him to know I CAN cook...when the occasion calls for it...if I absolutely have to...when Mecury is in retrograde and Venus is in Leo rising... LOL! LOL! LOL!
