It (1990 TV)

In the quiet town of Derry, Maine, Seven freinds, Bill, Eddie, Mike, Bev, Stan, Richie and Ben (the losers club) have all been seeing and hearing strange things. Most of which revolve around a Clown called pennywise in which they all admit being real, the kids eventually discover that the leader of the club, Bill's little brother fell victim to this evil. The group sets out to stop the force and put it to rest once and for all. 30 years after defeating IT, Mike Hanlon, the only Member who remained in derry, is suspecting that IT has returned and is forced to call back all of the Losers club, due to a promise they all made to return if its evil shall ever resurface. Uncovering new powers, clues and evil the club reunites as adults and come face to face with the evil that has haunted and fed on derry for the last centuries. Of course, as we all know, Tim Curry plays Pennywise!

One of the scariest TV programs that I can ever recall, especially with Tim Curry as the clown who lived in the sewers.

I really liked this miniseries until the end when I felt it was so anti-climatic. Tim Curry did a fantastic job as Pennywise and was so menacing!

I agree. Curry was wonderfully scary, but the "big monster climax" was just lame.

I guess I wan not sober at the time of the climax, or something close to that for I do not recall it what so ever. But then I did keep a loaded weapon around in case I heard whispers coming from under my water bed. But then I did not sleep well for a couple of years after the showing because of the _________ clown.

I also may have been hallucinating at the time, but as I recall Pennywise turns into a giant spider at the end. This is one Stephen King book I haven't read, so I don't know if this plot point comes from King or not.

IT was a disappointment for me in both the book and the TV series. Could have been when Stephen was in a slump. I generally enjoy his work and his more recent stuff has been above par. Actually his latest short story collection ROCKED!

I know you can only do so much with television, but at times I ponder how that would have turned out if the movie was made for cable viewers. Since I do have a thing about clowns that go way, way back that is probably why the TV version was compelling to me.

I liked his latest story collection too, Woody.

And Wolfy, you know the "thing" about clowns is something we have in common. That's why I was much more scared of "It" when it was a clown, and it lost its power to scare me when "It" became a big spider. Of course, I don't like spiders either, but I'm more scared of real ones (like in "Arachnophobia") than the giant 50s movie monster variety.

I enjoyed both the book and mini-series - but was disappoited in the ending. Spiders do not scare me at all, so the ending was pretty lame.
But clowns - oh man - they scare me - I hate clowns of any kind - except Krusty the Clown!

And Tim Curry was awesomw.

Hi, Dottielu! Good to see you! I've gotta admit -- I like Krusty, but even he scares me a little. :-)
