Glad to be back, have had a tough time lately, quit my job at the prison, because I fell for one of the inmates, yes, dumb huh, but I can't help it, when I look into his eyes or hear his voice I just melt, just like stupid teenager again, but I need some advice if you can help me, I know just like a nurse to do her own diagnosing, but I have GERD, and it was ok, am on Protonix bid, but for the past 2 days I have had constant heartburn, hurts like a bitch, it only stays right in the middle of my chest, it doesn't radiate and I started buying Tums again, which I haven't needed since I started on the meds. Drank a soda thought maybe it was gas, doesn't help, the tums only help temporaily. What can I do, I lost my insurance, so I have to depend on myself. Thanks guys. CC
CC I am sorry you have had to compromise your job. I hope it turns out for you.
As far as the burning mid esophageal pain... Well that may not be esophageal. I think you probably know that. You are in Calif if I remember. Perhaps you can call a few MD offices and explain your situation and ask for a deal cash. We have more and more MDs in our area doing this for people without ins. When you call ask for the office manager right off the bat. Don't bother with the front desk. The manager will be the person with the clout. You can also tell them you would be willing to work off some of the payment by doing stuff in the office for them. Sometimes they will let you do that too. The main point is getting evaled sooner rather than later. My RN girlfriend sat at lunch with me doing your same rationalization.. ITS GERD>> I know it is>>> IT wasn't and she arrested on the cath lab table.. Thankfully, they saved her and I spent Christmas day bathing her, walking her, and educating her family. A month later we got to have lunch again.. If she had not been evaled we would not have..
Good Luck get evaled before something more monumental happends
Thanks friends, I always say that a nurse is one of the worst patients, doctors and nurses, I have a part time job starting tomorrow so I will try to see a dr. soon.
I started with zantac, then tagamet and then prilosec which worked great for awhile then went to protonix and now nexium which I have to take BID. I still have an occasional tums. My problem is diet. All the foods contraindicated in GERD are the ones I like. Tomato sauces chocolate, mexican food. Hope you have better luck. Where are you working now?
