Giant Rats

I have been reading on the internet news about giant rats. It seems some have inflitrated FLA Keys. Now they say a young rat can be 15 lbs. a full grown rat can be as much as 150 lbs. They also seem to thinks the have come from the upper east coast. Then they go on to say that this strain of rats might be mixed with the nutria, a rat like animal. They did some DNA test on the hair. I have not seen any info since then. To my knowledge, based on when I was younger - my Father had a client in northern WI. We went there for a party. He raised nutria for their fur. I never knew they were of the rat family.

Has anyone else seen any info on this? I just say yikes it creeps me out.

That's a real positive reason for living in WI. Uck. Biig rats in Dubuque when we lived there but that's outrageous.

I know a full grown rat that is 150 pounds - I call him "My Ex-husband" lol Other than that - I am sure that would be 'stretching it a bit' for a member of the rodent family.

Cute one razz.

Yeah matchstich - that is all the stuff I was reading. It only caught my eye because it was on the front page news of my comcast front page internet news. I hope I never see one.

Yeah it might be stretching it a bit for a rodent, but all I know is what I read. True or False I have no clue.

Do you ever get the feeling the world is getting too small... it's too easy for things to jump continents; i.e these rates, carp, plant species that overtake the landscape, asian carp (Scary for Wisconsin), etc.

Seriously...... mother nature is a fantastic thing...but I wonder is man and his nomadi abilities has confounded nature and short circuited her plan?

Isn't man a part of the plan?

yeh....but I think our achievements have been a bit over what she expected of us. I think one of Mother Nature's Liutenants tampered with her plan, thinking he was "improving" it.
That was Liutenant volution.

Nutria?? That sounds like the latest no-cal sweetener! Why would anyone name an animal that? You would almost expect it to be "nutritious" or something to boot! It sounds like a plant or lichen or something.
My Dad had a cousin with a Mink Farm up north in WI... He had like 3 fingers on one hand and 2 on the other. NASTY CREATURES!
